    Losing right speaker after sleep

After returning from sleep (I think), I lose the right channel on my HDMI setup.

I have an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI motherboard, which includes built-in video and sound.  When connected via HDMI to my TV, I simply don't get anything from the right speaker on my TV (after returning from sleep).   Otherwise, seems fine (OK, it's a little quiet on DVDs and HD, but that's a known problem).

This isn't limited to VMC, as I can go into "Playback" hardware and click on the left speaker (I can hear the test tone) and the the right speaker (I hear nothing).

If I reboot, I can click on the right speaker icon and hear the test tone.

Using the speaker output on my PC works just fine -- this is limited to the HDMI.  I've confirmed it's not the TV's speakers by hooking up external speakers to the TV. Same thing: nothing from the right speaker.

I "think" I have the latest sound and video drivers.  I've (almost) positive that I don't have balance settings off.  Video works fine (except for reverting to VGA resolution) after returning from sleep.

Any ideas?  Any way to force a reset of the HDMI sound after returning to sleep.

Re: Losing right speaker after sleep

I have a similar problem with my ASUS P5Q-EM board.  Every once in a while when returning from sleep, the left audio is out and the right audio is distorted and tinny.  If I go back to sleep and return, then the sound is OK.  As of now, I just disabled Sleep since this is my first HTPC system and I don't want my family to get frustrated by it.

I have the exact same problem with the same board. Infuriating. Considering a complete re-install but doubt it'll do any good.

    squeff:
Video works fine (except for reverting to VGA resolution) after returning from sleep.

The fix for the resolution thing is to remove igfxpers.exe (I think I spelled that right) from the registry.
