CID with Vista CID and Vonage ( US Robotics Modems)

I'm about to toss this computer off a bridge....

I'm running Vista medai center Ult.  and have a internal US robotics modem setup to work with Vista caller ID, I have tried two other modems with the same problem. Both US Robotics. If I look at the Hyperterminal screen all it shows is ring... ring.... ring.... no more data, I have tried all of the strings to make the caller ID function, still nothing? I know both the modems I have here work, becasue I see other posts about them working

    05699-02r

    & a 5633 external USB model

I even tried to run a wire straight from the vonage box to my modem cutting out my smart box setup. Will this ever work with Vonage? My phone gets caller ID just fine?  Thanks for any help.

    Hi Brian

try installing Ascendix 2 (trial software) - in the help menu there is a diagnose modem problems - and it can fix caller id problems - then uninstall and it works, I use it on my pc and works well

    Thanks Tony!

I tried it, and will continue to play with it, but after the repair function I still get the ring.... ring... ring... in the window of this software also? I'm wondering if my Vonage adapter is the problem? Some days when I call the house from my Cel the number shows up, other days it says private number on my home phone.... but I would just think that info would be sent to the PC and it would desplay private number? Is this a type I or type II CID problem?

Re: CID with Vista CID and Vonage ( US Robotics Modems)

So I went for a walk with my laptop today :) I hooked up the USB Us Robotics modem to my PC and went over to my neighbors "customer access pannel" phone box- and hooked my pc into the output, and then called him from my cel phone... Dont worry he was at work :)

This is the report I got...

Command to enable caller id is "AT+VCID=1<cr>"
DATE response is "DATE = "
TIME response is "TIME = "
NMBR response is "NMBR = "
NAME response is "NAME = "

    Checking modem settings
    "EnableCallerID" setting key found
    "EnableCallerID\1" setting value found
Current command to enable caller id is "AT+VCID=1<cr>"
Current command matches detected command ("AT+VCID=1<cr>") and will not be changed
    "Init" setting key found
Current init command to enable caller id is "AT+VCID=1<cr>"
     Settings do NOT need repair

    Checking modem responses
    "DATE" response ("<cr><lf>DATE = ") appears correct ("hex:93,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"TIME" response ("TIME = ") appears correct ("hex:94,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"NAME" response ("NAME = ") appears correct ("hex:96,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"NMBR" response ("NMBR = ") appears correct ("hex:95,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
"MESG" response ("MESG = ") appears correct ("hex:97,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00")
     Responses do NOT need repair

I went back to my house, hooked up to my adapter, and got the same report...But when I try to test the connection with Hyper Term. it still shows Ring... Ring.... Ring... and nothing more? I'm thinking it's not Vonage?

It might be the initialization string that is being sent by Windows and/or HyperTerminal.

Have you played with the settings in Control Panel/Phone & Modem Options?

Re: CID with Vista CID and Vonage ( US Robotics Modems)

No, I'm not all that sure what they should be, I just left them in the stock format. I have read that many people just install this modem, and everything works, thats why I'm so confused. I was up till 11 PM last night working on this thing, and still nothing. Does the above report look good, or should it list the information from the phone call.

Re: CID with Vista CID and Vonage ( US Robotics Modems)

I would think that the phone number should be in the text received.

You need to get your hands on the technical manual for that modem so that you can see what the commands are supposed to be.  There are literally hundreds of different settings inside these modems and that was as of a few years ago that I last touched a modem.

I am betting that the initialization string is turning off the Caller ID features on your modem.  And/Or, possibly, the defaults for your modem were changed before you got it....in which case you need to restore to factory default settings.
