Why are we Unable to set channels to show no listings.

We are given the option under the standard tasks for the guide to set channels to show no listings; but this fails to set the channel to show no listings.

Process I use to set channels to show no listings (this process does not work)

tasks>settings>guide>add listings to channel> show no listings for this channel > save

doing this for say channel 2 should result in no listings for channel 2 in the guide. What I get is, channel 2 still has listings in the guide despite being set to show no listings.

Why not just remove channel 2 from your guide?  What's the point of having the channel show up with no listings?

Re: Why are we Unable to set channels to show no listings.

Several Channels show incorrect guide information. This is taken to extreme with digital sub channels; where channel 4-1 and 4-2 have the same guide information, duplicated from channel 4-1.  I want the channel and would like a correct working guide, but baring that; I would like to remove the guide listings from channels to prevent recording errors caused by incorrect guide information. Who wants to come home to watch a series they set to record, only to find it recorded on the wrong channel due to guide duplication; and additionally find that they can not remove the incorrect guide information from the channel.

Just removing the channel is not an option or a valid solution. The option was given to set channels to show no listings, but the function does not work and should be fixed.

I agree 100% - I have the same issue - have tried and tried to remove listings for sub-channels but they will not go away.  Is there some xml file that we can edit to get rid of the sub-channel guide listings but still keep the indicated channel and number active in the guide?

    I agree with Michael.

I do not see the point, but if you really need the number in the guide with on data just edit the xml file for that channel.

What XML file needs to be edited?
I have tried XML files in the past with no results.

In any case this is a broken feature and should be fixed.

hacking a file to fix a bug is not a good solution...but a temporary fix.

I have the same problem and agree with photodude, it needs to be fixed. On that note, you should also be able to delete a channel, or at least edit it, not just uncheck a box and have it still stored unable to be changed. Can some explain how you even get in to edit a channel's xml files? I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit. Thanks.

Can't you just map the EPG from the non-digital equivalent to get guide data - that's what I do, since I have never been able to actually DOWNLOAD a digital guide!

Re: Why are we Unable to set channels to show no listings.

a quick and dirty workaround that has worked for me. Rename the channel to something that media center can't match to anything. For instance I have a 5.2 subchannel that wouldn't be mappable to anything on  rgular or digital cable because it shows RTN (retro tv net) programming. Instead of letting it be called WOI-DT2, I called it RTN and then media center didn't map WOI's listings to it.
