2007 Niveus Rainier750HD for sale: $3000 obo, plus shipping.

I have a newer Niveus Rainier750HD available for sale. It has the HD DVD setup. If interested, the cost is $3000, you can upgrade via Niveus directly into blu ray for $1523. This would be like getting a new Niveus for $4523. Looking at best offers as well. The machine is out of warranty, it is supported directly through Niveus customer service though. Sorry if this is the wrong location to place the post, just want to get it out. Paid a lot for this. JW

Yea, I was thinking the same exact thing. Can't you just buy a $120 Blu-ray player and drop it in ? After all, it is a computer....

I guess the owners of these machines do that. These are the people that don't like to get down and dirty with a machine. Its a very sophisticated setup. For $7000, it better be. The machine was sold to me, I no longer want it. Velociy micro is looking very good to me.

Here is the answer from Niveus, whats included in the cost.

Yes, we are still offering Blu-Ray upgrades. The issue is that this unit will need more than just the Blu-Ray drive. We will have to replace the videocard, RAM, Blu-Ray drive, and load a new OS image. The SKU for that upgrade is N40-0103027 with a MSRP of $1523.

I'm sure it's a nice machine and very well built, (have read some very good reviews) but, still $1523 ?

    New video card $150-250

    Ram -$60-120

    addon Software: $90

    Blu-ray reader (not writer), $120-160

At the top, $580, they are charging $1K to image the machine ? ouch. Never mind the DRM issues you will run into if you have recorded shows, as they will reimage the machine and you'll lose your DRM store...

Not to pile on but yeah, I definitely agree. To put this into perspective, I paid less than this for my XPS 420 with 2 CableCARD tuners back in February. You could probably throw in the $170 I paid for my HDHR and still be under that number.

I wonder how these companies stay in business charging these outrageous premiums.
