IR remote & blaster vs. RF remote & SKY box (with Sky remote)

    Hi all,

I've spent an hour searching for an answer to this problem and couldn't find any posts that give me a resolution.

My PC came with an RF remote which is working just fine for all aspects of VMC including digital TV Tuner.  I'm now experimenting with connecting my Sky Digital box as an STB to give more channel choice.

For the moment, I'm content to use my PC remote for all non-TV related use and then once I've selected Live TV, use the Sky remote to control the set-up box, change channels etc.

As part of the TV Setup, I've got the Sky signal being picked up successfully through the Composite Video , but I'm unable to progress beyond the "IR Hardware Not detected" error.

Is there a way around this - i dont neccessarily want to buy another remote as my RF remote works just fine; although I understand it will do away with having to use both PC and Sky remotes if I did.

Any hacks or workarounds gratefully received!  Or suggestions for functional but aesthetically pleasing IR remotes & blasters if thats the only way out.

    Cheers,

    Christoff.

    Hi Christoff,

unfortunately, if you plan to use an STB with your PC, I think Media Center will not let you progress with the setup until the little IR bugs are detected.

Does your receiver have sockets for plugging these bugs into, or do you need to buy a new transceiver?

    Hi Tony,

It doesnt look like there's anywhere to plug them in.  Do you recommend a particular IR remote/ blaster combination?

    Hi Christoff,

I like the MS remote control, however if you do go this route, make sure you buy the actual MS one - I've got 2, one is in use on my Xbox and one on the media pc - however I bought the second one from eBay, and its not an official MS one, so it only comes with one power button, which is fine for the xbox, but the official MS remote comes with a power button for tv, or in our case, it turns the amp on and off - the official MS one comes with 2 ir blasters.

I'd buy the MS one from a reputable company such as Scan or quietpc.com personally.
