    FF/REW WMA and MP3 files?

Shouldn't I be able to forward/rewind WMA files in music library? I remember it used to work but now nothing happens when I try it. My music files are all WMA lossless. Recent clean install, with SP1 and TV Pack 2008. I have noticed this maybe since SP1 but only now started to think why it doesn't work.

I can't FF/REW any music files mp3, wma etc. I'm pretty sure it has worked before, or am I wrong? I checked with my laptop, and it has the same problem (Vista SP1, no TV Pack).

    Re: FF/REW WMA files?

Could someone check if ff/rev works in their VMC with wma lossless or mp3? Either I remember incorrectly that I used to be able to rewind these or I have a problem in my setup.

    Edit:

I just did a clean Install, tried to ff/rew in VMC immediately after install and forward worked, rewind didnt. I'll try to figure out what caused forward not to work earlier. BTW why doesnt rewind work with any music files in music library, if I remember it correctly it has always been like that?

It's a problem with TV Pack, after I installed it I couldn't forward anymore.

Yes it's a new feature. Still works in media player.

As far as I know, fast forward/rewind has NEVER worked for music in Vista Media Center. MSFT has confirmed that this is a limitation of the Media Center streaming technology.

That sounds odd as at least pre TVP2008, I thought it used the base WMP file to play music files (at least the WMP process would be running when I listened to music in VMC). I do believe it depends on the format though. I use WMA, and it works (I literally just tested it) in VMC (FF not RW). So, the question is why remove that feature from the music? are they scared we're going to skip the non existant commercials in our music?

Re: FF/REW WMA and MP3 files?

Has anyone found a solution to the no rewind / fast forward in music issue? It's a problem on the new HTPC I've almost finished building (which has VMC SP1 with TV Pack) but not a problem on a laptop I have (which is VMC SP1 without TV Pack).

Re: FF/REW WMA and MP3 files?

For some reason, Microsoft flatly refuse to answer why they have removed the (most basic of basic) ability to fast forward music with TV Pack 2008!!  I find this behaviour completely contemptuous to be honest!!

Re: FF/REW WMA and MP3 files?

It's a TV Pack issue.   I've used VMC with an extender mostly for Music for a couple of years.   FF/REW was never a problem (my entire collection is MP3).    Post TV-Pack, there's no FF/REW.   I simply cannot understand why this would be *removed*.  It's a bug, plain and simple.   Much of my collection is classical music, and I often want to FF through a 15 minute MP3 to a particular section to listen to.  Can't do that since TV Pack.   (If you've read around the posts, you'll notice that I'm particularly irked by this and like to rant whever i can!   :)   )

So, no you're not crazy.  Used to work, doesn't anymore.

    Peace

I have had it on good authority that this "feature" has been fixed in Windows 7 but wont be addressed in TV Pack.
