Hi all,
I have two full Vista x64 media centers and a work machine (also x64) which I use for testing VMC stuff before letting it loose on 'she who must be obeyed'. I made an acronis image on my work machine and installed the TV Pack straight over the existing installation - worked perfectly (so far). It's left me with a couple of questions though:
1. I'm using a cheap usb tuner (HVR-900 I think) using composite from the stb on my work machine. Setup found everything fine and installed without incident. Unforunately, all the channels numbers are now extremely weird, to the point that the wife would freak out if I presented her with it. It has found multiple BBC1s for example althought this is not of itself a problem as it seems to handle them very inteligently. The real problem is the arbitrary numbering. In the UK, Sky news is 501, movies start from 300 etc. I'm not sure if there's anyway to retain the original sky numbering but if anyone can advise I would really appreciate it.
2. My next test is going to be putting in a FloppyDTV DVB-S2 tuner card. I understand that the TVPack will now recognise this as a DVB-S2 card without the need for the old 'hack' of fooling VMC into believing it's a DVB-T card. HAs anyone tested this and is this in fact the case? If so, what are the best drivers for the card to install before setting up VMC? I have no interested in the supplied apps, it will only be used ewithin VMC. Would the channel numbering problem still be likely to exist?
I am actually massively impressed with the TV Pack and am strangely (perhaps foolishly) confident that the h.264 solution isn't far away (I understand the beta decoders expire soon but I feel sure some solution will be found). If this is the case, then for the first time since I've been fiddling with this stuff a serious VMC Sky HD solution will be available - no more failed recordings because a PIN is required at 3am!
By installing over the top, I found that all my weather plugins, mymovies, video browser and OML all still work. Not sure if this would be the case on a fresh install though.
Thanks in anticipation
