    Bluetooth Adapter recommendations

My current USB Adapter requires the use of Bluesoleil Software which means that I cannot get the sideshow gadget to work with it.

Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth USB Adapter that works with Vista "plug n play" or even better hs one which plays nicely with the sideshow gadget.

    Many thanks

    Re: Bluetooth Adapter recommendations

    Hi,

Just bought a Jabra a320s USB bluetooth dongle (300 feet range), which I will try tonight along with the SideShow beta gadgets from MS on a Windows Mobile 5 PDA device. Will let you know the results.

I just successfully tested sideshow with my Windows Mobile device using Nano VP6494 bluetooth dongle.

Here is the CDW link..  $30

    Hi,

I did also had a HAMA USB bluetooth dongle but was not to happy with the coverage, hence the purchase of Jabra. Both was around 30$.

    Re: Bluetooth Adapter recommendations

    Hi,

Installed the Jabra a320s yesterday and got it to work (remember to download the update from Jabra.com). The coverage is good - all house is covered, and the sideshow are working, sort off. So it is working, but not out-of-the-box.

I got a new problem after suspending the PC and swithing off the PDA, I was not able to reconnect via the gadgets on the PDA. I will look for answers and perhaps create a thread for this one.

Before you go and buy a new adapter, I might be able to help you get your current adapter to work with the inbuilt Microsoft Bluetooth stack (software). It will require a little technical knowledge, but I can guide you through it if you want?

Out of interest which sideshow gadget are you using?

    Re: Bluetooth Adapter recommendations

I bought a new bluetooth dongle from lm technologies which was recognised and installed by Vista. My HTC Touch is paired with the vista PC and can sync but the Sideshow beta wont connect with the vista pc and sideshow doesnt show as a service available on the services tab in the bluetooth window.

    So annoying

I'm in the same situation. Cheetah05 would you beable to explain how to get it to work. I don't want to have to buy another adapter.  I'm good with computers.

    Thanks

    Re: Bluetooth Adapter recommendations

Works on most, but no all adpaters.

Here's a quick rundown for those that are computer-literate:

Make sure you do this with the dongle out of the PC.

    1. Go to "Device Manager", find your bluetooth dongle, double click on it to open properties.
    2. Go to the details tab and select "Hardware Ids" from the drop-down-menu. Make a note of all the values, usually there are 2.
    3. Do a search on your Windows drive for "bth.ini" (on vista it is in the "C:\Windows\inf" folder IIRC).
    4. Make a backup.
    5. Open the file in a text editor and scroll down to you start seeing lines like: "Motion Computing USB Bluetooth Device=           BthUsb, USB\Vid_10ab&Pid_1002".
    6. Edit one of the lines changing the end bit to your hardware id.
    7. Save the file.
    8. Stick the bluetooth dongle in, if it fails to install go back to step 6 any of the other hardware id's you got in step 2.
    9. Copy your new bth.ini file incase you do a reinstall.

    I know this works on 32bit xp & vista 32bit & vista 64bit.
