New software package supports the R5000-HD in Media Center

The R5000-HD modification is a popular DVR device used to digitally capture programs from most satellite and cable sources without any lossy recompression. A newly released software package officially supports Media Center (XP and Vista 32-bit versions) and allows users to view live TV, schedule, record and playback programs in full HD quality. Installation and setup is simple and straight-forward and unlike other solutions, you can choose from any of the available integrated EPGs provided by Media Center. No limitations, no channel mappings.

Set top box control and captured data is transferred via a single USB connection. The R5000-HD software seamlessly handles and executes all channel requests. The identical MPEG data that is captured and recorded in our transport stream files is inserted into the dvr-ms format by Media Center. So, you can now enjoy the same high-quality, lossless HD (and SD) recordings in Media Center along with the usual links to movie and program data in place.

For more information and to download a trial version of the software, please visit our website

Note: do to delays in releasing the Media Center version software, we have extended the 20% off sale on all R5000-HD modifications until August 7th. All currently supported STBs are usable with the Media Center software, however 6000 series STBs are not officially supported. We recommend upgrading to the ViP 211 units.

This is considered to be a "pre-release" version. It is a 30-day trial so it falls under the "beta" category. Around the time that the original 30 day trial periods are over we will have the software posted as a release for purchase. Consideration may be given (in the form of free software) to those who purchased the R5000-HD for the first time and are using the MCE trial version.

Is there any DirecTV support for H10 or H20 MPEG-4 yet?

No, and there never will be. We've looked into it and the H10 and H20 models cannot be modified. However, the MPEG-4 Dish Network models (ViP 211, 622 and 722) are fully suported. Note that the 211K which is newer, cheaper HD unit is different from the 211 internally and cannot be modified.
