    Playing Ripped DVD

Well I have been trying out different things going on advise given here.
I have now ripped a DVD to Hardrive (VOB files within VIDEO_TS) with AnyDVD but cannot play it within Media Centre.
I did install MY Movies but didn't like it... so its back out the system.

I know this prob seems like a stupid question, but how can I do this?
Do I need to install something like Power DVD?

    Thanks again.

    Re: Playing Ripped DVD

No additional software is needed for DVDs though some will make your life a little easier.  Did you update the registry key to add the "dvd library" tile?  If not, start there.

Add the update the below registry setting and a "dvd library" tile will replace the "play dvd" tile on your Media Center Start Menu.

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings]
    "ShowGallery"="Gallery"

From there most users will start collecting cover art and creating DVD xml files (see http://www.dvdxml.com/ as a good reference).  You can do this manually or use any number of the free tools available.

If you have a Media Center Extender you might also want to take a look at http://www.htpcug.org/Default.aspx?tabid=168.

If you need more information give a look through the forums as there are tons of posts about this.  If you need help I can try and point you in the right direction.  Ashleigh has also put togethor a good list of items @ http://www.nakedcleaner.com/2008/06/30/media-center-stuff/.

WOW, I actually managed to do the Registry Update thing and it working.... THANK YOU.....
I will follow the other items you have mentioned to get on more....

I have downloaded the xml file, and put it in the same folder as the movie. Now give the info etc. Thanks.
    Also
You mentioned tools, What do they do, where could I get them.

I have followed another thread, downloaded cover image, saved it as folder.jpg in the movie folder and it displays it when I click on the 1st menu but just a blue box in the line up of DVDs.
    Any advise?
