I'm getting this error on American Gladiators and now Medium as well (I don't even like that show but still). Never seen it before and wanted to make sure it's correct, that NBC is marking the show with the broadcast flag.

If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.

The only other time I saw this was some Barbara Walters special.

I wonder if this affects TiVo's and Comcast DVRs as well.

I never saw ABC set the flag, so hopefully it's just NBC trying it out and we won't see again...let's hope.

Same here.  Got it on my homerun and on my cablecard tuner...

Went back about 30 minutes after it started and was able to record the rest... strange.

Homerun here also, but over the air not cable. I guess NBC is doing this across the board tonight. I've tried to restart the recording but I've gotten this message the last few hours, very frustrating.

Same problem here with American Gladiators.

Medium recorded fine.

Analog Comcast cable.

Same problem here (West Coast feed on Charter Cable). I'm bummed since a friend of mine shipped out to Israel today for 3 weeks with the Marine Corps and I wanted to record the episodes he is going to miss.

I'm seeing reruns listed for Friday ay 8. Lets hope this is just a test by NBC.

Ya same here, Comcast QAM, tried it multiple times for the first 15 min.

NBC doesn't really expect me to sit still for 2 hours when there are NBA playoff games on do they?

same here with CableCard in the bay area. friggin ridiculous

I got it all through my local news at 11, when Conan came on though it started recording again.

This is not the broadcast flag.  There are no tuners out there right now that pay attention to it.  Most likely NBC embedded SCTE21 or CGMS signals in the stream.  As such, Media Center has no choice but to obey the command.

In other words, I would blame to the broadcaster.  :-(

This is the Broadcast Flag.  The Broadcast Flag applies to digital (OTA HD) signals; CGMS-A applies to analog signals.
You're right in that no tuners pay attention to it.  That job lies with the software that runs that tuner, be it Media Center or a hardware DVR.

ElimGarak is right, this isn't the Broadcast Flag, but the net result is the same. If it was the Broadcast Flag it would be affecting others, not just VMC owners. 

Not sure what the deal is, but I haven't had any problems recording NBC HD OTA via a HDHomeRun here in Tampa FL. In the past week I've recorded, The Office, My Name is Earl, Law and Order, SNL and Medium.

Actually it can be the broadcast flag. I think if you checked into it you'd find that very little STBs (DVRs, etc) out there honor the flags, so WMC would be one of the few if not only PVR solution out there that would be affected.

Interesting, what makes you think that VMC honors the broadcast flag when no one else does?

Also, it seems everyone that is having the problem is having it watching via cable.

Hey I was the one who originally had the issue. There were a couple of other people in this thread (http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/45/262419/ShowThread.aspx) who were having the restricted message come up even though they were on OTA.

Also apparently Microsoft has admitted to adhering to the broadcast flag:
