Hello, I have a PC with Nvidia 6700xl display adapter in my living room
using my Sony LCD TV as the display (HDTV 720p). The TV does not have
VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs so I have connected it using the component
connection. With Windows XP I get perfect picture through the component
connection.
Now that Vista SP1 is available I went ahead and installed Vista
Ultimate (32bit). During the installation I hooked up another monitor
using DVI. The installation went fine, but I have not been able to get
Vista to produce picture through the component connection. I
immediately installed the latest nvidia drivers I found (174.70) and
tried single monitor and dual monitor setups with my TV through
component connection as the secondary and primary display but no matter
what I do I always get just some lines and dots flashing on the TV
screen but no picture. However, when Vista is booting up I do see the
BIOS messages and the progress bar moving along on the TV screen so
there is picture through the component connection during the boot
process. But as soon as Vista has loaded the screen goes black with
some lines and dots flashing time to time. If I have dual monitor
selected at the same time I have normal picture on the monitor hooked
up via DVI.
The system is now in dual boot configuration so that I can still
boot to Windows XP as well. When booting to XP the TV still shows
perfect 720p picture through the component connection.
I have tried several different nvidia drivers (older versions) but
the problem is always the same. Also updated the BIOS on the PC, but no difference. I have also tried lower than 720p HDTV
resolutions, but the problem is always the same.
I am running out of ideas... Has anybody had similar problem? Unfortunately I don't have any other display
with component connection so I cannot try with another display. The
flashing lines and dots make me think that perhaps there is some timing
issue with the component signal so the TV is unable to synchronize to
the signal for some reason.
Any ideas?
