PLEASE FIX THIS: "Recording of this content is prohibited"

    Ok Media Center Team,

I am an avid supporter and I love the platform (to the point that people will kill me if they hear the words "Media Center" from me again) but my love relationship is beginning to move into a love-hate relationship.

I have been planning my switch to Media Center with cable card for a long time.  I finally have my Dell XPS 420 with Dual Cable cards and 90% of the time I absolutely LOVE IT!!

The other 10% of the time I get this freakin' "Recording of this content is prohibited" bug which frustrates me to no end and makes me look like an idiot to my family for spending the money and switching over from a cable box that "just worked".

(BTW, I know that it is a bug because I was just given the error and I am currently recording the show that gave me the error with a little manual intervention.)

I just had this issue pop up with the new episode of Desperate Housewives that aired tonight at 9pm.  I also had a second show that was supposed to record tonight at 9pm that actually started recording at 9pm but then stopped at 9:01pm "as scheduled" according to Media Center history.

So I had to cancel my series for one and then do a manual recording for the second before I was able to get them to both record after missing the first 10 minutes of each.

I really hope that the mythical unicorn release known as Fiji does exist and I really do hope that it will fix this bug.  Otherwise I will have a $1500 paper weight sitting next to my Time Warner DVR.

Thanks for listening to my rant and thanks for giving me (what is almost) a perfect solution for my home media needs.

This is going to sound stupid, but have you rebooted recently? I get lots of flakey errors after a couple of days without a reboot.

Also, what happens if you try to tune to the affected channel in Live TV (before you reboot)? Do you get picture?

Re: PLEASE FIX THIS: "Recording of this content is prohibited"

It might be a little more helpfull to ask "could you help me" vs. "please fix this"

First of all, make sure your running the Microsoft codec for audio and video. Download this...

    http://mediacenterexpert.blogspot.com/2006/07/vista-media-center-decoder-utility.html

Then if you still have a problem, spend some time seaching on this site, there is a ton of posts about this issue and they might lead to a fix to help you. Your DRM store could be damged, and there is a way to reset it but, go through this first as it tend to help a lot of people...

I think this is the link to help with DRM issues...

    Good luck

It was definitely a post out of frustration.  I am not the only one seeing this error.  There are a few threads on this board about this issue.

I have rebooted my PC recently and I have tried everything that DavidinCT suggested.

I didn't ask for help because I know there is no help to give me and the countless others that get this error yet.  I do feel confident that this will be fixed in the next major media center update.  I just wish I had a better idea of when that was going to be.

It would be great if the media center team followed in the footsteps of the xbox team.  They have 2 updates a year guarenteed for the xbox in the Spring and Fall.  No exact dates are ever given but I know that I am getting them and I know a general time frame.

    Thanks for the replies.
