change remote address on linksys 2100?

change remote address on linksys 2100?

I'm sure I remember reading something about changing the remote address on v1 extenders but I'm not seeing anything on my shiny new 2100...  The Harmony 880 on the main VMC in the living room 'sometimes' sends some of its button presses to the extender in the kitchen.

    Anyone see anything on this?

    Sorry, but I must bump...

Every time someone starts watching tv in the living room the extender in the kitchen starts going crazy...

Nope, nothing like that at all. It's a issue I have with my HP tablet pc as well.

You could not change the remote code on the V1 extenders.  By default, they were setup to "respond to all".  I would expect that the V2's are the same way.

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

Ok, I found what I remembered, you could change the remote address on MCE2005 using TweakMCE (or directly in the registry), presumably you can do this in Vista as well, but in my case that wouldn't matter if the extender is hard-coded to code 0 (respond to all).

Linksys, how 'bout adding this in a firmware upgrade?

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

The DMA's are set to respond to remote ID 1.  I'm using the MS MCE remotes and a common IR repeater, so I have set them to unique id's.  The only one that will work with the DMA is the remote set to 1.

Excellent!  So I take it address 1 is the default for everything including the extender (and not 0/all as someone suggested the v1's were set to), so if I change my vista machine and harmony to address 2 or whatever that should solve it...

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

I believe that is correct.  Like I said, I'm using the a DMA2100 in the bedroom and it doesn't work with any of the MCE remotes that dont have the ID set to 1.

Good registry reference for MCE settings.  http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/04/29/586961.aspx

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

I'm still trying to solve the DMA2100 with a universal remote issue.  There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off the 'debounce' or toggle with an extender the way you can with the registry settings on Vista so I'm stuck not being able to use the universal remote (which wouldn't be a problem except I need an RF remote to control the reciever volume 2 rooms away.)  Are there discrete type codes that you can learn with a harmony and teach to a different remote that are not toggle?  I.e learn a discrete channel up that always works as channel up, regardless of if you just send the same command?

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

Ok, I spent some time on this this weekend with some success - changed the main VMC machine and Harmony 880 remote to address 2, and the Harmony 659 (on the default address 1) operates the Linksys DMA 2100 in the kitchen, and no more crossover!

Unfortunately, I have one huge issue - on address 1, the VMC remote (actually it's an HP MCE remote) is recognized on address 1 and pulls from the Logitech database, on address 2 I had to 'recognize' each command during programming, of itself that's not a huge deal, but the problem is the 'Aspect' command.

Not sure where it came from, but someone uploaded an MCE remote 'Aspect' command which we have used heavily for almost 2 years!  But since I don't have that button on my remote, I can't 'learn' the Address 2 version, therefore I no longer have one-button zoom-changing, which on our main machine, really sucks!

Is there, in fact, an Aspect button on some MCE/VMC remotes?  Maybe I'll have to source one and buy it, and change to address 2, just to learn the command?  Or is there a better way to get this done?

Sorry for the bump, manual zooming is driving us crazy!

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

groovejumper, how did you program the specific codes (ie 1 or 2) on the harmony's?  What's the default code in the harmony database if I juse use a generic HTPC device for the DMA2100 and how would you specify for otherwise?  I have both a DMA 2100 and a laptop running VMC in the same room and would like to be able to identify each device separately with the Harmony One.
    thanks!

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

There is a new TweakMC for Vista Media Center.

What you are looking for is “Set Remote Control ID” in that TweakMC app.

Re: change remote address on linksys 2100?

Thanks Richard, I think that will get me half-way, so they'll respond to different commands but I'm not sure how to get the Harmony to only broadcast ID 1 or ID 2.  So that when I turn on the extender I don't also turn on the Vista laptop sitting next to it, and when I use the start button I don't do that for both, and so on.  Worst case scenario I could teach the harmony from one of the Media Center remotes, is there a way to program the Microsoft Media Center remote to only send ID 1 or 2, in case I can't do this via the Harmony software?

    Thanks again for the help

I'm trying to figure this one out too! I have an HP Media Center remote that has an aspect button, but no way to change the RemoteID from 1. I was wondering if we could analyze the frequency, and see if you change the RemoteID from say 1 to 2, is there a relation to all the frequencies. Like the power button frequency gets bumped by one unit, and same for the Play button. If this were true, we could work out the expected frequency of the Aspect button. Anybody with ideas or could help?
