msi k9agm3-fih HDMI NO sound issue

Dear all please help before this system goes through the window.

recently bought a samsung lcd tv with hdmi and thought it would be simple to plug in the hdmi cable and have audio and video through it. :( No matter what I seem to try i just cant get audio through the hdmi cable

    Im using onboard 690g graphics

standard hdmi cable - does it matter what cable i use

    Realtek ATI HDMI driver 1.68

    Realtek Hi Definition drivers 1.87a

the nearest i have to a possible solution is by unplugging all other connections I get the hdmi icon to appear in the HD audio manager, however no sound even testing dosent do anything even though green volume goes up and down.

    in device manager i have

    ati hdmi audio

    realtek High Definition audio and

2 High Definition audio controllers under system devices.....

so what have i done wrong or are these systems piles of c$%p

    thanks

    si

I don't know if your Samsung LCD TV is like my Sanyo LCD TV, but if it is, take a look at your HDMI ports.  I have 3 but HDMI 1 is different from the other 2.  HDMI 1 is really a DVI port and it doesn't accept audio.  I had to plug into HDMI 2 or 3 and then I started getting audio.

I also had to make sure that HDMI audio was selected as the default audio device in Vista.  Before I installed service pack 1 I would lose HDMI audio about 1-2 times a week but so far (knock on wood) after SP1, I haven't had any problems with it.

    Hope that helps,

thanks for the help, the samsung is the same except its hdmi2 which is dvi, so hdmi1 and 3 are the ones ive tried, hdmi obviously works if analogue audio is also connected

I'll try get sp1 and see whether that resolves the issue, be grateful if anyone has any other advice, as i dont think it will

    thanks
