    Videos, Pictures...Open to folder ?- Fixed !!!!!

    Hey,

Maybe someone can figure this out, ive searched and I can not find the correct way to set this up, if it's even possable in Vista Media Center.

When I open "My Music" it goes in and shows me all the songs and albums I have, No clicking though folders to get to them. Same with Recorded TV

When I go into "My videos" or "My pictures" there is only 1 folder listed, I have to click that to see the Videos or Pictures. Is it possable in Media Center to have it setup so when I click on Videos, it just opens the one folder listed, so it goes right to the videos ? Same with Pictures ?

It's kind of dumb that if there is only one folder, it does not default to go right into that folder...

    Anyone ?

Put the files in C:\Users\<Username>\Pictures (no subfolder) and C:\Users\<Username>\Videos.  That's the only way I know how.

    Thanks...Is there another way ?

The system is setup with a 30gb drive for the OS, and all the media is on a 500gb drive (incase the system dies or need to rebuild), I can rebuld with out losing my data. Even the "My Documents" is remapped to the 500gb drive. I have like 10-15gb of videos, so putting them in the boot drive, is not an option.

The Pictures are on a share on another machine, the Videos are on the 500gb drive in "My Documents\My Videos".

Media Center only shows 1 folder for both of these (Video Library and Pictures). It's just dumb to have to click on the 1 folder just to see the items I want to see, it should just default to open the one folder and only show folders if there is more than one......

    Know what I mean ?

I have the exact same problem, it is so extremly stupid to show the root folder. I want to see the content not the root!!!!!

Noah, please tell us that a hotfix is on the way for this.

    kind regards

All I did to resolve this, was go into Explorer, right click the default Pictures and Videos folder, click Properties, Location tab, then Move.  VMC then knows they are your documents and displays them directly rather than as folders (hope that makes sense).

I pretty much do this anyway with the whole "My Documents", to move all, music, videos, pictures, etc. So all my data is on my Media drive.

I did notice there is options for Pictures in settings, so it can be all dumpped in or viewed in folders, wish there was the same options for videos...

David I have seen a registry setting for this, I was not able to find it about 4 months ago.

I will look again in the registry.

Going of memory I don’t think it was in the regular Media Center sections were you would typically find the Media Center registry settings.

Maybe a Media Player setting ? I'd still be interested to know. It's a small thing but, it's annoying to me. Click on Videos, and have to click through another folder when there is only one folder there.

    It's just dumb..

Let me know if you find it...

It was back in March 2008 in Redmond when I saw this so my memory is not good, I don’t think it’s under Media Player setting in the registry but an Explorer registry setting.

Hmmm....Don't know where to even start to look. If you remember or find it, let me know.

    Thank you !

Re: Videos, Pictures...Open to folder ?

I took my Vista Media Center laptop to work, I think I found the registry setting under

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders    My Pictures.

Right click My Pictures and modify the path, the default setting is “%USERPROFILE%\Pictures”  I changed it to “ \\Laptop\pic-video “ .

It looks like its working but I need to test this on a network at home, and test it from Windows Home Server to Vista Media Center  \\Server\pictures

When I get home, I'll check this out on my machine. Correct me if I am wrong, I thought I saw a setting for Pictures (in Media Center settings), to have all or in folders showing. I think Videos is the big one here, I believe you can set this up for pictures.

I could be wrong....(on a XP pro box here, so that does not help)

Can I say your a god (don't get a big head)? I've been looking for a fix for this issue from the MCE 2005 days. I've been trying to fix the "My Videos" issue, and that was the small but, annoying issue for me.

Went in Media Player, deleted (from Library) all folders besides the one I want to show.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders    and found Videos that was going to “%USERPROFILE%\Videos. I changed that to D:\My documents\Videos

Reboot, Opened Media Center, select videos, all my videos show up from that folder, no more clicking through another folder...

    Awsome and thanks !!!!!!!!!!
