    NEW! Plugin to Integrate PowerDVD with Media Center (HD DVD/Blu-ray)

    Website has been moved to OurMediaCenter.com Please check it out!

    ***UPDATE*** Added MCE2005 Version
    With the help of Matt Wright from Missing Remote we were able to create a working MCE2005 Version.
    He provided the registry requirements, and testing for the plugin.  (Thanks Matt!)

    ***UPDATE*** Added untested Vista 64-bit version.
    For versions to work you must have a path to PowerDVD of  "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\" for the 32-bit and "C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD\" for the 64-bit.

    ***UPDATE*** I guess some are under the impression that the plugin isn't FREE??  THE PLUGIN IS 100% FREE!!!
    Some people don't like to play with .xml  so I just made it easier.  Just like the Joost plugin that someone made, or the MCE tuner extender that someone made.  Both of those could have been done without an installer but it is easier with the installer.

    ***UPDATE***  I made some changes to the originals to make them look a little better, I also added a new version that creates a new menu strip in VMC called: "Extra Media Applications"
    For those of you that would like to add Applications to this strip once installed the command in the .xml would be: <category category="Cyberlink\PowerDVD"/>.  Please uninstall previous versions before installing these new ones.

    Changelog

    Hello all!
    I spent a little time today and developed a streamlined plugin to enable Blu-Ray and HD DVD Playback via VMC and Cyberlink.  Please feedback or Bug reports below!

    My xml code for the most part was based on the link below:
    Click Here

    Basically the plugin will allow for autoplay of both HD and Blu-Ray Media by minimizing VMC and launching Cyberlink.  It also adds a TAB to launch from VMC if the disc is already in the drive.  I thought long and hard about this and do to the 1 extention limit to the menu strips on VMC I desided to make 2 versions of the plugin.  One will put the Tab on the TV+Movies strip, and the other will place the Tab on the Pictures+Videos strip.  I did this because I personnally use Vongo, so but I didn't want to go to more programs to launch the app.  The plugin is rolled up into a simple .exe that will install the plugin and is complete with an uninstall if you wish to remove the plugin.

    Below is the link to my page that has screenshots, and the downloads for the plugin:

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    Would anyone be interested in a Cyberlink Button that is by itself rather then under TV + Movies or Pictures + Videos?

    Cheers!

    How is this any different that what I believe Chris posted in his blog?

    Isn't the post below the same thing?  So you managed to take the publicly known info, wrap an installer around it, and then try and get people to pay for it?

    hmmm...

    here are the instructions for hddvd, extracted from a web site, cant find the original url
    after the initial disappointment wore off I did some searching and found an Article by Peter Dampier on the Media Center Sandbox blog. This article was meant for companies like Cyberlink to show them how to register HD DVD (and blue ray) disks with Vista Media Center. I was still disappointed that there was no way to play back HD DVD movies directly in the Media Center shell but at least this blog posting showed how I could at least register HD DVD with Vista Media Center.

    To accomplish this create an XML file with the code below in it.

    <application title="PowerDVD" id="{00807177-139D-4796-9730-8F114D23C253}" companyname="Cyberlink" companylogourl="http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/ps/cllogo.gif" description="HD DVD App">

    <entrypoint id="{00807177-139D-4796-9730-8F114D23C253}" RUN="C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe" title="PowerDVD Ultra" description="HD DVD Player">

    <category category="AutoPlay\HD DVD"/>

    </entrypoint>

    </application>

    If you installed PowerDVD to another location edit the path to match your system. Next from a command prompt (if you have user account control enabled make sure it's an elevated command prompt) and run C:\Windows\ehome\RegisterMCEApp.exe /allusers <xml file>, replace <xml file> with the path and name to the xml file you created earlier.

    Now when you insert a HD DVD disk with Vista Media Center in full screen mode, it will minimize and launch PowerDVD Ultra and begin playback of the disk.

    Now, say you have a disk already inserted and you don't want to get up to re-insert it. Create a file named PowerDVD.mcl with the code below in it.

    <application
    Title = "PowerDVD Ultra"
    Run = "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe"
    BGColor = "RGB(63,24,172)"
    Name = "PowerDVD Ultra"
    CompanyName = "Cyberlink"
    StartImage = "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\AVSettings\StartImage.png "
    ThumbnailImage = "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\AVSettings\Thumbnail.png"

    >
    <capabilitiesRequired
    directX="True"
    audio="False"
    video="False"
    intensiveRendering="True"
    console="False"
    />
    </application>

    Again if you installed to a different location edit the file to point to your install. Move the file to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Media Center Programs. If Media Center was running close it and re-open it and now in the more programs sections is a link to fire up PowerDVD Ultra.

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    THIS IS COMPLETELY FREE!!!!  I never ask for payment!

    I didn't deny getting the info was from other sources, I even put the link of my .xml source (which predates Chris').  The only difference is that I packaged it so that your wife can put it in.  Plus this merges both HD DVD and BLU-RAY, and adds a button.

    I just tried to make it simpler for everyone that doesn't understand .xml and how to install the .xml.

    If you read the begining the very first thing I do is give you the link to the source I used to write this.

    Armyb77

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    I have been reviewing postings in this site and others for sometime now.  I have read all the articles on Cyberlink's lack of integration with MCE.  While people have pointed out ways to do it manually this is the first and only exe that will make it easy for non tech end users.  THANK YOU SO MUCH Armyb77!!!  I will install it and let you know how it works.  As for the people negatively commenting about it stop complaining.  Do you have an easier way?

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    No problem Danielv,

    If you don't like the placement or how it reads in VMC just let me know it takes me only about a couple of minutes to repackage the program to appear in a different location in VMC or change the name and logo.  I made this for my wife mainly because I am in the military and deploy a lot so I wanted an easy way for her to be able to change things.

    I'm thinking of adding a seperate menu strip that would have Vongo, Joost, and Cyberlink on the same strip, if your interested in that let me know, all you would have to do is install Vongo, and Joost, and I can package so you are able to have a seperate menu to select those 3 things or if you have other needs I nay be able to help.

    Cheers,
    Armyb77

    Dude, you ROCK!  Thanks for taking the time to put this together with the button and all.  I can't wait until there is native support for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, but until then, thanks!

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    Question for you...  I've tried editing the registry entries that your installer creates to use the "/fullscreen" switch that PowerDVD allows, but it doesn't seem to work.  I have verified that from a command prompt I can use the following:

    C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe /fullscreen

    I have tried all of the following as values in the "Run" registry key but none have worked:

    C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe /fullscreen
    "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe /fullscreen"
    'C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe /fullscreen'
    C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe "/fullscreen"
    C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe -fullscreen
    "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe -fullscreen"

    Any help would be appreciated.  I know that if a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disk is in the drive PowerDVD will automatically go fullscreen, but I don't like that PowerDVD opens in a small window and then switches to fullscreen after 30 seconds.  I would really like to get PowerDVD to open fullscreen like it does when run with the "/fullscreen" switch.  Thanks!

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    Unfortunately \fullscreen isn't a valid switch for PowerDVD when it's done through the registry. I'm not sure why but it just doesn't work.  I'm making a wrapper .exe file that will make sure that PowerDVD opens in fullscreen and that once closed VMC comes back up.  Look for the update today or tomorrow.

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    New version 1.2 is posted.  This should make PowerDVD open in fullscreen mode, and upon close return you to VMC.

    This version was only tested for 32-bit version of VMC  I need others to confirm if it works in 64-bit, it may also work in MCE 2005 as well.

    Please post buggs and results

    If you could make it 64 bit version I would give it a try.

    Everything indicates to me that it should work fine in 64-Bit if you could try it and let me know that would be great, worse case you can uninstall it.

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    I loaded your latest patch and it worked really well.  I can launch Power DVD from Vista MCE in full screen mode.  If I close Cyberlink using the X it will go back into MCE.  My only issue is when I put a Blue Ray disc in the drive it will launch Cyberlink behind MCE and start playing the movie .  I have to either minimize MCE or Click on your button in MCE to goto the film within MCE.  Any ideas?  Maybe my settings are wrong in one of the programs.  All my autoplay settings are set to default.  Settings in Cyberlink are run full screen, no auto launch on startup and my settings in MCE are set to run MCE at startup.

    Re: NEW! BLU-RAY and HD DVD Playback Cyberlink VMC Plugin!

    Make sure that under video controls of Cyberlink that you have "Video always on top" selected
    Then in VMC check and make sure it isn't checked in "tasks->settings->general->startup and window behavior"

    See if that works, I'm not experiencing that problem.  Can you tell me if your running 32-bit or 64-bit??

    I'm still waitingi for someone to tell me if it works in 64-bit

    Also if you push the (info) button on the Vista Remote you can arrow down to exit to close PowerDVD also.
