Sony, Nvidia and 1080p Hell!! HELP!!

I have a Sony XL 301 (vista home premium x32bit) connected  to a Sony W3000 (1080p) TV so want to get the full 1080p from the media centre. I'm told that all I need to do is install updated drivers for my Nvidia 7600 GTL (does anyone know what the "L" stands for, can't find any reference to it on  the Nvidia  site).  I  tried  to  install  the  latest  drivers  (169.25)  but  it  caused  all  sorts  of  problems  (black  screen  etc),  I've  gone  back  to  my  previous  driver  which  gave  me  my  image  back  at  1080i.  Now  I'm  getting  DLL  errors!

Anyway, I'm still in persuit of 1080p and would love some advice about how to get it. What drivers are people using to get 1080p? Where can I find older versions of the Nvidia drivers, I can't find them on their site.

I've read that Microsoft block 1080p on Vista Home Premium, is this true, could this be my problem?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,

I use the latest nvidia drivers, and have no problems getting 1080p in Media Center.

Have you gone through the setup for your TV output within Media Center and chosen the resolution you require?

I can't even get an image with the latest drivers ...... it is possible I didn't install them correctly.

    Hi Lar,

you say that you get dll errors now since rolling back the application of the latest drivers - have you used system restore to remove the latest drivers?

When applying any patches like this, I use Acronis True Image to take a copy of my pc prior to application, then if problems occur like this, that can be used to remove any traces of the application - saves a ton of time - but thats all very well in hindsight :-(

So, on the drivers prior to the latest, did you set the resolution as suggested, in MC?

Re: Sony, Nvidia and 1080p Hell!! HELP!!

    Hi Tony,

The driver I have at the min only has the option of 1080i (well thats the only option I can see in MC). I wonder if I tried another driver (not the newest nvidia version but a slightly earlier one) but I can't find them on the nvidia site.

I did do a system restore to get rid of the 169.25 driver.

My current driver is from the sony support site but it's very old.

    Thanks for your help.
