I decided I would break down and somehow purchase Vista Ultimate to hopefully give me all the features I have been trying to hack into. The cheapest seemed to be the Anytine Upgrade. I have a pc I built that has been running Vista Home Premium for months just fine. Once I did a clean install of Ultimate without activation using the same CD just to get an idea how it worked differently and it was fine.
The Anytime Upgrade is done from a downloade file. The install seems to go fine until about the last few minutes and then I receive this error.
Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install windows restart the computer and then restart the installation.
So OK I tried the install again and at the end of the second try received the same error. After phoning multiple Microsoft numbers and then phoning Amazon where I purchased the software I have learned nothing of what might be causing the problem or how to correc it. I asked Amazon for a refund and I guess I have about a 50/50 chance of receiving this. I asked if I could simply recived the product key to do a clean install but for whatever reason that does not seem to be an opotion.
After getting no where with support I googled the error and saw some pages regarding removing IIS and Windows defender.
Has anyone here tried doing this install and gotten anywhere. Did I just make a huge mistake and should have spent $20 more for the OEM CD of Ultimate. Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to trick the system to allow me to install the upgrade.
Also does anyone know if I ever get this installed will I somehow be given the product key so in the future I can do a clean install of Ultimate ans skip this crazy upgrade.
