    Hulu.com anyone?

So, would anyone with some decent coding/mcml skills like to get together on a hulu.com plugin?

    Re: Hulu.com anyone?

So, I haven't got an invite or check out the reviews online yet but we any any specifics about whether they have an RSS feed and what they are using to stream (Flash, WMV9, etc)?

Since it is a closed product AFAIK, I'm not sure if Fox and NBCU are interested in having others create applications that basically steal the content (meaning, take users away from hulu.com which is bring them ad revenue I'm sure).

I agree with Chris. But if you really wanted to fiddle, you could try creating a Yougle Vista source for it.

I actually have sent an email to their legal dept. asking about this very thing.  Yougle is another online video type thing I assume?  I'm sure I looked at it some time ago but don't recall.  If that also does online streaming we would likely be able to use it as a base to get something going for hulu

    Re: Hulu.com anyone?

It would be nice if Hulu was incorporated in the InternetTV plugin on VMC, since MSN is a partner of the Hulu venture and if you already had an existing Hulu account.

    Re: Hulu.com anyone?

It's MEDIA CENTER that does all the streaming, Yougle is just a way to find the different streams and view or download them.

It works for YouTube, Google Video, DailyMotion, DivX Stage 6, WWITV and a few others, with the option of being extended to basically any source of streaming media (although it doesn't currently support password-protected media).

    Re: Hulu.com anyone?

On their "about" page, they have a paragraph on video sharing which states "Hulu lets you easily share your favorite videos via email or embed them on your own website. You can even choose to share the entire video or just one scene. By selecting the share or embed feature, you have the option of selecting your own start and stop point in a video to create your own fun video clips." A statement like that seems to indicate that a VMC plug-in would be welcome IMO.

I've just installed Yougle on my dev machine, I like it, interface is clean and easy but would need to support authentication

    Re: Hulu.com anyone?

To be honest, it wouldn't be too hard. In fact, if you made an external (eg. Windows) program to set the username and password, you'd be able to integrate with Yougle right now.

I'm looking at adding a username and password option to the program for other sources, but as yet I haven't found sources that really NEED it. Although people are starting to ask for access to the over-18 features of DivX Stage 6, so perhaps it'll be out soon.

In the mean time, if you want to work on a source I can help you with it - hard-code your username and password for the testing phase, and by then I may have a username and password system set up.

Sounds like a plan to me, I was thinking a config file of some kind where users could set their l/p info. I'm gonna review your template (and example source) for a plugin. I'll get back with you shortly.

This sounds very very interesting. Anybody still working on it? Or it's in deadpool already?

This is the closest anyone has got (in general, not Media Center related).  I don't think it will last much longer.

    Re: Hulu.com anyone?

Hulu does have a feed for your personal history and for your playlist.  However, It doesn't seem to work in anything but IE feeds.  I'm sure it's an Atom feed and that's the issue.  I left feedback with the hulu crew to make their feed a little more standard that might work with newsgator (yes the mce plugin is still on the website and works with vista) or one of the other plugins, maybe even TV Tonic.  Anyway, this would be the killer app if we could figure out how to do the plugin.  I'm hoping that the Stage6 plugin that may be coming down the line from Steven Lindsay, (a Microsoft employee with a crazy media center setup, see the video at http://on10.net/Blogs/Brianjo/amazing-media-center-setup/ and check out Steve's Blog at http://www.on10.net/blogs/EnglishBloke/) may give us some insite on how to plug into Hulu for Media Center.  Here's hoping....

Their RSS feeds are pretty slim. Items only include title, guid, description and pubdate.

Most aggregators are going to need either a link tag, or better yet, enclosures.

Yougle Vista already HAS an addin for DivX Stage 6 - so perhaps the technology you are waiting for is already here. Translucent has made a great addin for Yougle...I'm just trying to get in touch with him so I can polish it a little.

I don't have Hulu - I'm in Australia. Makes it difficult to create the source myself. But if anyone wants to try, I can help them. OpenHulu has the episode listings, but the videos themselves don't appear to work.

What I need to get out of Hulu is the actual URL of the video itself, or the video streaming server. It's also what ANY addin will need, so once you have that solved, the rest should fall into place.
