    C-Media audio problem

    Hiya
I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem however...
Ive just re-installed Xp mce after i was unable to fix a problem within media center. Now I Have no audio. Before Re- installation my Device manger showed Cmedia audio device. after installation this is not here. I thought as this is hardware it shouldn't be wiped out by a clean install. Also i have no idea what version etc my sound device is. so downloading drivers is a tad hard!

In case this is helpful this is what my device manger shows under sound, video and game controls:

    Audio codecs
    happauge Nova-DT dual dvb-t  tuner device (+IR)
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Legacy video capture devices
    media control devices
    Unimodem
    full-duplex audio device
    Video codecs

    Philips Freeline LS1100
    768mb ram
    250GB NTFS
    Intel P4 (HT) 3.2 GH
    ATI radeon X300se 128mb
    16x DVDRW

    Re: C-Media audio problem

You need to install the driver for the card, otherwise Windows doesn't know how to drive it and shows it as not there.  You can find drivers for CMedia devices under XP at http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/driver

They don't have Vista drivers, but there are open source drivers for some cmedia based cards at http://cmediadrivers.googlepages.com/home.

    Re: C-Media audio problem

You didn't say whether this was an onboard (MoBo) audio or a separate card.

In either case, you should be able to locate the actual chip and read the printed part number from it.  Alternately, you can research the part number from the manufacturers description of the MoBo/Card.

Another option is to check with the manufacturer's web site for the drivers.
