Harmony 680 remote... lost green button?

Harmony 680 remote... lost green button?

I've been using a Harmony 680 for a while now. But I just got a new TV and receiver, and in the midst of reprogramming the remote, something weird happened: in the Media Center activity, the green button no longer works. If I switch to the "Media Center PC" device, the green button still works... but not in the media center activity! I have tried deleting and re-creating the media center activity with no luck.

Is there any way to reset this? The button is not customizable like all the others so you can't just assign the command back in. As a workaround I have had to assign the green button function to a softkey in the activity.

I have no idea how your setup is, but you might need to go back and look at the setup for each device. Especially the button functions ... I know with their software update there was a rearrangement of how some buttons worked and I had to manually change everything over to MCE (as it was attempting to control the TV or Receiver).

Re: Harmony 680 remote... lost green button?

Just emailed logitech. This is a known bug and should be fixed in the nextt software release, which I was assured would be out before the end of the month. It appears we may be able to assign the "Media" button other functions after this update...

    Here's the email I received:

    "Dear *****,

Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony Remote

We were speaking earlier about the Media button on your Harmony 680 remote control. Fortunately, right now we are aware that this problem exists and are working to fix it. We have logged this problem as a bug and it is currently being addressed by our engineering team. The fix is scheduled to go live with our next major web update, set for the end of July. At this time, I would recommend that you map the button you need to the LCD for the activities which use the Media Centre PC. The command is called "Green Button".

Re: Harmony 680 remote... lost green button?

For the record, I'm having the same problem with current software and firmware. I found the following on Logitech's support forum:

After over a month and many calls to level 2 support I finally have a fix for this.  Call Harmony support and get to level 2.  Then tell the tech that the solution is written up in Case #070416-002382.  The tech that finally fixed things was George.

The fix is adding a piece of code to any activity wher you want the greenbutton to work.  If you chance your activities again, they will stop working as a media center activity and you'll need to call again.  So get things setup exactly as you want, then call support.

This was posted 06-15-2007. Not a perfect solution by any means, but a workaround, nonetheless.

Contacted Logitech this week.  They said the green button will no longer be supported for the function that it was intended.  Looking for new remote.  Anyone have a suggestion!?

I went with the Harmony One. Pricey, but quite an improvement over my 680.

I've got the 880. I make a "home" button and use that. In my bedroom I have a stock MCE remote with the greenbutton.

Can you map the menu button to be the green button?

I use this program to reroute buttons on my MCE remote:

Wish I never updated my firmware.  They could at least give me a discount on a new fully functional remote.
Message I got from Logitech after troubleshooting my remote:

    Dear Ray,

Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony H680 Remote.

If you need the Harmony remote to perform the "Green button" function, you need to look for either the "Green" command or the "GreenButton" command. You will then need to use the Customize Buttons feature and assign the command to either a physical button or the LCD screen so it will control your device properly.

Regarding the physical Media button, due to compatibility problems with our current line of remotes, that button is no longer available for mapping. We apologize for any inconvenience that this have caused.

    That was already answered.

I just had this problem . . . agh. Ridiculous.

I'm sure as heck not going to buy a Harmony One. I can understand forcing obsolescence, but why did they rob the ability from the 880?!?

Re: Harmony 680 remote... lost green button?

I'm guessing the firmware for 670 and 680 is now the same. hence the missing green button. I wonder if somone could retrieve the firmware from a greenbutton working 680?
