Media Center Components Database is Now Live!

Just a quick announcement for those who have not been following this in the Vista Hardware forum.

Over the past couple of weeks community members have been adding their system details to an online database.  The goal is to create a reference of which components play well with each other specifically for Microsoft Media Center.  So far the database has over 110 systems added but if you haven't added yours there an option to add yours to the list (2 minute web form).

    Check it out at www.mce-components.com

I'll be adding more functionality shortly but right now you can browse by component to see what other hardware it is known to work with and see systems that other folks have built using that component.

    Media Center Component Ratings

I've now added component ratings to the site in addition to the system ratings we had before.  Each component can be rated by performance, quietness and stability.

You can vote on a component even if you haven't added a system, it's quick and easy and no registration is required.

To vote, just browse to the component you're interested and rate each of the 3 criteria out of 5.  Couldn't be simpler.

FYI: there are now more than 190 systems added!  Thanks to all who have taken the time.

    Re: Media Center Component Ratings

OK - I’ve been promising this for a while but here it is. I’ve made major changes to both the front and back end of the site, taking it a lot closer to what I originally envisaged.

A brief summary of of the updates are as follows:

      • More streamlined component browsing
      • Sortable, paged table of all systems using a given component
      • Link to greater system details for every system added
      • Presentation niceties including wider pages and unified look and feel across the whole site (with the exception of the “Add System” page… still working on that).
