NEW!! My Blockbuster v0.5 for MCE 2005 and Vista Media Center

I am proud to announce the release of v0.5 of my new Windows Media Center My Blockbuster add-in!  As of v0.5, both MCE 2005 and Vista Media Center are supported.  This add-in allows you to browse and manage your Blockbuster Total Access queue from within MCE.  Features include:

    • Add and remove titles from your queue
    • Browse New Releases
    • Browse Recommendations
    • Browse Genres
    • Browse Collections
    • Search
    • View movie details
    • View similar titles
    • View all editions available for a title
    • Watch movie trailers
    • and more...

    Here are a few screenshots:

This is the first public release of My Blockbuster, so there are bound to be a few bugs.  Suggestions, comments, and criticisms are welcome.

You can download the latest version of My Blockbuster from the website located here: http://www.permanence.com/MCE

Thanks for the info. However, was it necessary to link directly to the file. Linking to the website, then allowing navigation to the file would be more appropriate. I never download direct links.

Is this MCE 2005 only, or does it work with Vista, too?

That's one of the reasons I spelled out the full url, so you could see that you were downloading the .msi before you clicked it.  I haven't set up a website for the app yet, so there is no website to link to at the moment.  Hopefully that will change in the next few days.

Out of curiosity, what is the concern over clicking the download link here as opposed to clicking through a website first?

It's designed for MCE 2005.  Unfortunately, I don't have a Vista MCE box set up here to test it on, but (aside from any installation anomalies) I don't see any obvious reason why it wouldn't work.

Is it a javascript debug error?  If so, can you post the details of the error message (error message and line number)?  If it's a .Net error, any details it provides would be helpful.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience...

Installs OK on vista but keeps spinning without end.  Can someone help port this to Vista?  I loved Netflix and now  i really love blockbuster.  Thanks for the app.

I installed it on my Vista Ultimate machine. The installation went fine-except there's no menu item for it in the Vista MC interface. Looked through all the submenus and didn't see it.

I did get an error (debug error like mentioned above) when I opened "My Movies". I can post a screenshot a little later.

I'll look at installing Vista on a spare machine I have here and see what it will take to port it. My primary HTPC is an MCE 2005 box (after three failed attempts at getting Vista Ultimate to run stable on it), hence the reason I developed this for 2005.

As far as bugs are concerned, if anyone experiences issues with the app, it'd be very helpful to post as many details as possible... Where does the error occur?  What were you doing in the app at the time?  Does it happen with a specific movie?  etc...

I'd also like to hear from those of you who aren't having problems.  Surely there's got to be at least one of you out there! Tongue Tied [:S]

Thanks for the feedback so far...

Here's the error. I don't know if it is specifically due to the Blockbuster app install, but this is the first time I've been getting it. THanks for making this app...it's gonna be great! Let me know if you do need any specific testing! Big Smile [:D]

Ohh.. you're getting an error with the "My Movies" app.  I thought you meant viewing your Queue in My Blockbuster.  I can't think of any reason My Blockbuster would have any effect at all on My Movies.  I run both fine together on my MCE 2005 box.  Have you tried reinstalling/repairing My Movies to see if it fixes the problem?

I can't actually see the My Blockbuster app. I'll try removing both, then reinstalling My Blockbuster first, then My Movies tonight and let you know if I can see My Blockbuster then.

Re: NEW!! My Blockbuster v0.1 for MCE 2005

Can't wait to get it working.  Sounds like a great app!

Unfortunately, I am having a problem with it.  I've got it installed and can access it from the 'More Programs' menu.  However, it sits on the 'Queue' screen, with the indicator spinning indefinitely (I've let it set for 15 minutes).  Thats all I get.  I've tried uninstalling, and installing it, also I have verified my login info is correct.

I've got .Net 1.1, and 2.0 installed.  Do I need any other version?  Or is there a place I can look for an error log?

That sounds like a javascript error.  If possible, could you browse to "C:\Program Files\Permanence Designs\My Blockbuster", then double-click the "default.htm" page.  Accept the warnings that IE prompts you with.  At the bottom of the browser window, there will probably be a javascript warning/error icon in the lower left corner.  Double-click that and let me know what the error is (you may need to click a "Details" button).

    Thanks,

    TheEndless
