MCE 2005 Update Roll up 2 and MyDVD feature

    Folks,

I just upgraded to Update Roll up 2 for MCE 2005. I had heard a lot about MyDVD feature and was expecting to see MyDVD in the main menu. But I don't see it. Is there a configuation I should be doing? Is this not automatically added to main menu.

    Thanks in advance for help.

Use (Set Programs Acess And Defaults)

If you dont have it in your start menu you can find it "Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > And its on the left hand side as a button > Click the custom pull down menu and then add it in

Thanks Jamie for the response. Not sure I am following it though. Here is what I see when I open Set Program Access and Defaults.

Under Custom I see following programs and their states....

Choose default Web Browser, email program, media player, IM and VM for Java.

Under Media Player I see following choices...

Selected is 'Choose my current media player'

Media Center DVD, MC Music, MC Radio, MC TV, MC Videos, Online Spotlight, QT Player, WM Player and Real Player. All of these have check marks against 'enable access to this program' and none of these are checked.

What exactly I do to see MyDVDs option in MCE?

Download "tweakmce" powertoy from microsoft website.  here

Give you access to settings not normally avaialble.  "Enable MyDVDs" is one of them.

Now how to get your DVDs into MCE?  Search this forum for a wealth of knowledge.

Re: MCE 2005 Update Roll up 2 and MyDVD feature

You can enable the 'My DVDs' functionality with the following reg key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\SettingsDvdSettings

You'll find a setting that says "ShowGallery"="Play". Double click it and set it to "Gallery"

If you don't feel comfortable changing the registry manually, there is a small zip file here that can do it automatically for you.  It includes two files, one to show the gallery, the other to show Play DVD in main menu. (Instructions can be found here)

Alternatively, you can try My Movies found here.

One more question here. I tried using MyDVD feature by using two DVD drives I have on the PC. Things works great. Is this supposed to work on extender? I did not see an option of MyDVD on my XBOX extender.

    David Wright:
You can enable the 'My DVDs' functionality with the following reg key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\DvdSettings

You'll find a setting that says "ShowGallery"="Play". Double click it and set it to "Gallery"

David: I have followed these instructions before and they have worked perfectly!

However, on another MCE 2005 install this did not work. It's registry does not have a "dvdsettings" branch at all. A test using SysInternals live registry monitor (regmon.exe) showed that MCE is not even attempting to access this key. The machine does have a DVD drive, and DVD's do play correctly when launched with the "Play DVD" menu option.

Any idea what's going on here?

I believe that registry tweak is vista only.... if you have 2005 you need to download the MCE tweak program as stated by the third or fourth post.

Re: MCE 2005 Update Roll up 2 and MyDVD feature

Actually that registry key does exist in MCE2005. See here for a list of all the registry keys that TweakMCE updates: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/04/29/586961.aspx

A far more likely reason is that the problem machine hasn't had Update Rollup 2 installed. The feature you're after was only implemented in this update.

Just to drag this conversation down to a more mundane level....what does "MYDVD" do for you?

I am sorry to add a "Test" post, but the first time I tried to write anything on TGB I spent a long time editing my post to the see it lost by a faulty post-submission server...
