IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

This has been happening since the first builds of IE7 and still continues. I cannot be the only one noticing this. If you install the RC for IE7, the cover art for music, while playing, will be "black". WMP11 shows it fine btw. If you UNINSTALL or Rolback to IE6 all is fine. This happens under both WMP10 and WMP11.

    Anyone find a solution??

Happening to me to.  Do a search, there are other threads on the topic.

Actually, I have been involved in all those threads :) I have also posted on the developers blog for IE7 and the newsgroups. Still, no response from MS.

This is incredible - a pretty significant bug and no one at MS seems to have a clue

I just checked, and out of my over 350+ albums, I only see two that exibit this black album art.

How had you applied your album art in the past?  Folder.jpg?  Using Album Art Fixer?

Check the file itself, while it says jpg in the file name, it might be a bmp, gif or other format image named wrong.  in that case you'll need to resave it as jpg.

Re: IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

    1. The album browsing view works fine. This is NOT the problem

    2. Now go into your album (that has a cover) and play a song. The little box on the lower left that shows the song playing and covert art is now black

    3. Rollback to IE6 fixes the issue

Most album art was applied when the CD's were ripped (With J.River Media Center) or with Album Art Fixer, or iTUNES drag and drop. They are all embeded, along with folder.jpg so it works in the browsing mode.

    THey show up fine in:

    1. iTUNES

    2. WMP10

    3. WMP11

The album art under MCE works FINE with IE6 installed. As soon as you install IE7 I - and many many other people - look at the IE7 blog devlopers list - is having this issue. In fact, I ripped to WMA a CD as a test under WMP10 and the album art is black box.

    Again, the album

    They are definitely JPG's.

Just want to chime in that this also happened to me after I installed IE7.  It doesn't happen to all my album art and I don't know what's different about the ones that don't work.  However, after reverting back to IE6, all is fine again.  I wonder what the connection is?

Re: IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

Any art you added from iTUNES or AV Cover Art Fixer for MCE is not showing up.

On some of the stuff I ripped under WMP10 does show up - others do not.

    Again, IE6 works fine

Somebody in this post, http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/120644.aspx with the same problem removed any embedded album cover art from the mp3 files and that seemed to fix the problem.  Has anybody else seen this?

I've already uninstalled IE7, but I'm going to reinstall it this weekend to verify the embedded cover art fix or some other correlation.  I had no idea that MCE was depended on IE7.

Re: IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

I had this problem for a while now, and I have never installed any version of IE7 on my MCE machine.  It only happened to a very few albums, but I always keep a copy of the jpeg file so that I can replace it.

Re: IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

The point is, IMHO, that IE7 is breaking alot of MCE Music collections and has been since beta/RC versions. Many requests to microsoft to look into this has thus far fallen on deaf ears.

There will be alot of anger when the forced IR7 upgrade happens in a few weeks  and many peoples artwork is destroyed.

Re: IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

They tried sending it via Auto-Update on my main mce machine, but I just happened to be sitting there and saw the yellow shield pop up in the systray, so I was able to navigate to the Windows Update site and select "Do not show this update" for IE7.

After rolling back to IE6 I opted to give Firefox 2.0 a try, and I've been using it happily ever since.  I hope they work the bugs out of IE7 soon, but I'm not left wanting in the meantime.

Re: IE7+MCE2005 = corrupt album art (black)

I have the same problem after I upgraded to IE7.  It seems to affect any album art embedded into your MP3s, but it handles the Folder.jpg files (hidden files in the folders) just fine.  Browsing by album you can still see the album art, MCE seems to prioritize embedded album art when viewing the current track playing and that's when I get the black screen.   Someone above mentioned that the art is "destroyed"  I don't think so, it just isn't able to display it correctly.

I don't think the fix is to pull all the album cover art out of each MP3, especially since it took me so long to get them all correct.  I will go with the roll back to IE6 until MS notices and fixes the problem, unless someone knows of a better cure.

    Thanks,

I had been racking my brain over this same issue... I finally figured out a few minutes ago it was IE7 and then I found this thread just now. I was a victim of automatic updates in this case. I uninstalled IE7, got my album art back, and changed AU to "notify" mode.

Remove the embedded art tags? I don't think so. My MP3 player uses those. I removed the useless IE7 instead. It's especially useless for me since I have a dedicated MCE box that I don't use for web browsing at all.
