Send in old XBOX360 for repair or buy new arcade version???

So I have an old 360 that was purchased February 2006. It died (RROD) a few months ago and I have another arcade and an elite that I use as extenders. I really need a third for my bedroom (wife wants to be able to watch her shows in there). So my question is do I send in my old broke system to get fixed for $99 or do I look for a deal on a new arcade unit ($160 to $170). What are the odds of them sending me a new one? I have heard of that happening to others but I really don't want my old/loud/power hungry 360 back. What do you think?

In my experience, you don't usually get a new one, but that may have changed.

I recently sent in my elite to get repaired(still there actually), but if it had been one of my older xbox's that don't have HDMI, I probably would have just gotten a new arcade. It's not a ton more, but you get a brand new system, instead of a refurbished one.

Get a new one, its worth because of the sound\heat difference. I was shocked by the difference when I replaced my old Elite with a new arcade unit.

No. There is only a 3-year warranty and only certain RROD reasons have the extended warranty.

For my second (yes, second) RRoD on my 1st generation 360, not only did they replace the faulty optical drive, but I'm pretty sure they replaced my board with an "Opus" board. Can't be sure without cracking it open, which I haven't, but 1) I used a power supply from a new 2009 360 (with HDMI) when at a friend's house, and it fit -- the newer power supplies are keyed so not to fit in the old systems, and 2) I had to re-authenticate all my DLC, even though my serial number stayed the same. Was a PITA, too, since the transfer didn't initially take and I had to wait for high-level Live support to reauthorize my box. Regardless, my 360 is now practically silent when the optical drive is spun down. YMMV, but that was my experience.

Regardless, you should get it fixed anyway. Even if you replace it, at least you'll have an extra unit to sell or trade.

Thanks for the input. I am leaning toward getting a new one since it would definitely come with HDMI and the more quiet/effecient parts.
