I just built my first HTPC. I was running the stock driver that Windows 7 provided for the video adapter ATI HD 3200. The problem is the 2 inch boarder around windows on my Plasma Pioneer Kuro Elite Pro-151. If you use a 15 pin VGA you don’t have the boarder but I opted for the HDMI cable and thus I have the boarder. Downloading CCC and then configure the CCC, choose display options, and finally right click on the small TV (not the large) and pick configure. You will find a Scaling tab to increase the size of your windows on your TV screen. NICE. The problem with the upgrade for me is the TV freezes in Windows Media Center. I tried many combinations in CCC but I still get TV freeze.

A partial work around is to go into Device Manager, open display adapter and roll back the driver. The issue with rolling back the driver is now I can’t get to the scaling tab any longer to adjust the Windows on the TV. When I browse to it and right click on the small monitor it snaps me back to CCC welcome screen. I am going to try and find CCC 9.8 and drivers because I suspect I am running CCC 9.12 and lower version 9.8 adapter drivers.

I would like to download the CCC and Drivers from AMD / ATI site but I only see 9.12 versions. Can anyone provide a legitimate link that you trust to CCC 9.8? Thank you. Anyone else solving TV freeze with 9.12, ATI HD 3200 integrated graphics? A hilarious post that I read here on thegreenbutton, about how to fix the TV freeze with the 3200, was to buy a new graphics card. I guess if you can’t get the on board graphics card working you get another graphics card.

I have the EXACT same problem.  ATI HD3200 (onboard video) using HDMI cable, Hauppauge HVR-2250 except that I have Windows 7 64-bit.  My computer locks up from time to time in media center.  One thing I am trying, now, is to not start up Catalyst Control Center (CCC).  I already have my screen adjusted so that there is no border on my lcd tv.  So, this morning, I ran msconfig and turned off the ati catalyst control center from starting up on boot.  After rebooting, the CCC icon is not in the tray and my screen is still full-sized, but I do not yet know if that is going to fix my freezing issue.  I'll give it a couple of days to see if that fixes my problems.

Test this scenario, sleep the computer and then wake and go to Live TV. I can do everthing else except TV. From a cold boot I can go to TV. Again for clarity, my work around, install CCC, adjust screen, go to device manager, and specifically choose the driver that last worked. My CCC still runs on startup but you no longer have the option for screen scailing, or I should say you have the option but it snaps to the general screen in CCC when you click on configure screen.

 My decision is to ultimately try another MOBO that a user suggested in this thread or buy an ATI dedicated graphics card and forget the on board HD 3200. I have to save my allowance from my wife. :) I will post back on which route I went.

You're right - when I force it to sleep, it freezes up on me.  I was noticing this behavior, so I turned off sleeping entirely, but even without sleeping, it will sometimes freeze up after a while.  This is terribly frustrating.  I spent a lot of money on this htpc and got rid of AT&T Uverse, but now I have a system that is unstable.  I may be purchasing a new video card, myself, but one would sure think that ATI would fix problems like this...

OK, so I uninstalled my Catalyst Control Center by opening up the CCC program manager and saying to uninstall all ATI software.  Then I installed version 9.8 of CCC (found the 64-bit version here:

After rebooting (it didn't ask me to, but I had failures without rebooting), everything is working, again!  At least, I am able to sleep the computer and wake it up and watch live tv.  Let's see if this fixes my problems - I sure hope so!

Apparently ATI released a new version of CCC - version 10.2 - which fixes the problem (http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/t/80396.aspx?PageIndex=4).  I'm going to try it out later when I get home.
