POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
At the behest of the poster below I will be more specific:When you schedule a series recording for a show that airs frequently: for example "Modern Marvels" on The History Channel do you get multiple copies of the same episodes recorded at different times sometimes on the same day? Have you looked in the list of episodes scheduled to record and noticed that it has tagged the same episode multiple times, even when you already have it on disk? Have you seen an incident where there is a season premier for a series and you get four copies, two in SD and two in HD?These are the sorts of incidents I am interested in ...
Are you seeing duplicate recordings? Are you seeing duplicate recordings?

Whilst I think I know what you are referring to I would suggest you add a bit more detail to your question - its a tad ambiguous!!!!

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
On my Windows 7 media center, no, I don't really get this. I mean sometimes it will record a show twice if the SD comes on before the HD and I had it flagged as HD preferred (which only ever happens for stuff flagged to record repeats, because first airings generally include HD), but I don't really count that as a bug.
On the DVRs from Time Warner, this happens all the time.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
I only really see this with Holby City on BBC1. It records the first showing of the episode just fine on the Tuesday evening (it's recording right now!) but also records the sign language repeat the following Tuesday in the wee small hours.
I'd always assumed this was just down to dodgy guide data incorrectly flagging the repeat as a new episode.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
I get this with Xtra Factor (which will re-record on ITV2+1) and Big Brother (which will re-record on Channel 4 +1) - but strangely not every occurance. This is on UK DVB-T from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter.
Rich PS, Ian, thanks for elaborating

Seeing re-runs being recorded when series recording is set to only record new showings - even the guide data shows rerun in it.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
Seeing this with "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, because the guide data is very poor. The guide doesn't indicate the reruns. Solution is to tell media center to only record the episode around a specific time. In my case the new episode of the day airs at 11pm. This has been an issue for me in Vista as well as Windows 7. It's been a while since I set this up, but I believe to get this option you need to schedule the series recording from the guide. I believe if you search and then schedule the series recording, the option to chose the timeslot is not available.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
See this occasionally, for example sometimes Family Guy on TOON network will record the same episode multiple times even though the guide data seems to properly list the episodes as being the same. Not sure who is to blame here, MC or something flaky in the guide data. I also have the problem with the Daily Show that superswiss has and solved it the same way.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
Yep, I seem to be getting this too. Noticed it with The Gadget Show. I *think* the series setting was to record first air and re-rerun, but I've seen it record the same episode 3 or even 4 times!
Slightly off topic, but after moving to Win7 from Vista, I've noticed several issues with recordings. Sure, auto-updating of the schedule due to over-runing episodes is great, but other recordings have been screwed up when they should have worked ok. I *really* think there should be more control over recordings (eg be able to extend a recording indefinitely, until I decide to stop it myself), and tuner selection (eg when you run out of tuners and need to stop one recording so that you can record another - or even just to see which tuner is in use for a given channel). MC has generally got better in Win7, but I still feel it has some way to go before it can be relied up on.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
The worst one for me is NFL Films Presents on the NFL Network HD (FiOS, Tampa FL) -- some of the shows didn't have episode titles. It has also happened on It's always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX HD. But I've also seen it on Family Guy where reruns get recorded on channels other than Fox -- I didn't check the guide data to see if they were properly marked as reruns, just ended up telling MC to only record from Fox. Another possibly related issue is that my keyword recordings don't always work. If I delete them and readd them they will work again, for a while. I never had this problem in Vista and used the exact same keyword recordings. But none of this is as annoying as the new channels that I don't get that pop up in my guide everday. What is odd is that I use FiOS with an ATI DCT and a few ATSC tuners and the channels that are added that I don't get are DirecTV channels. It is very annoying to get errors saying my shows couldn't record and accidentily changing to channels I don't get.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
Yes. As previous poster mentioned, Daily Show / Colbert report are awful for recording 10 copies of the same show. Also happens with kids shows with no data (Backyardigans)
Also saw with "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" it was recording the repeat on the syndicated station despite being set for "HD Only on channel 5.1" it was recording the SD broadcast at 3 AM on channel 16.1 which was very annoying. Haven't seen that lately, though, since I changed to channel 5.1 only at 11:35

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
I see this happen a lot with a couple of shows on Fox News. They will recorded every episode even on the same day, or when the weekend comes, it will record the show again. I have it set to record about a certain time but the weekend reruns still record.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
I only have this problem with a ATSC sub-channel. The shows have all the same generic description and no episode information. They also replay them 2-3 times a day, then the next week there would be a new episode and they replay that over and over.

Our DVRs from Time Warner have this problem with The Daily Show also. I'm pretty sure its a guide data feed issue with Daily Show and Colbert Report.
Comedy Central is encrypted so I can't get Win7 recording it until next year when I get one of those Ceton cards.

Re: POLL: how many of you are seeing duplicate recordings?
Pretty much all of Mrs. Lobster's shows on HGTV are recorded all of the time, on every channel (HD and SD) even at the same time. For example...if House Hunters International is on at 8:00 on HGTV-HD and regular HGTV, it records at 8:00 on both channels, even though I have HD preferred as the series settings. I have it set to record reruns as well as first run, but it records the same episode every time it airs, not recognizing that it has already recorded it. Additionally, SyFy's Stargate Universe displays the same behavior as well as The Golf Channel's Big Break Disney Golf and Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken.
The airings on regular network TV seem to be better, but not perfect. The Office only records first run as requested, Fringe does not duplicate recordings....hmmm...those are really the only broacast network shows we record.
