    DTV Transition and OTA EPG's

Has anyone seen any new press releases or discussions on MS having an update for Vista in time for the DTV transition on June 12th?

There was a ""Service alert" icon into the Vista Media Center menu strip that details this Friday's end of analog TV in the US and the need to rescan your tuner to put up the OTA channel reassignments.

It also advises to perform a Windows Update after 6/9 and even points to here at TGB forums for more info.

And there's a detailed article on Windows Help and How-To:

I had a co-worker tell me he got the same "Serivce Alert" message today.  Odd thing is, he is using CableCARD with no OTA tuners.  Any CableCARD people getting this?

Based on Pete's post I see this is actually a new tile on the Media Center menu (it's not on mine yet).  Based on this it looks like Comcast is his root of his CableCARD issue and it is unrelated to the Service Alert tile.

Sorry for the lack of clarity on my post.  I meant, has there been any articles or discussions on MS sending out an update for the OTA subchannels?

I now realize I did not make that clear in my first post.  I understand how to set it all up, I just want to see if they are actually going to fix their subchannel SNAFU.

Yes, I wonder about this too.  Are they really still going to expect all Vista ATSC users to not have complete guide information for the digital channels or expect them to somehow install the unsupported "TV pack"?

On another thread I saw that they said they were going to have an update to fix this problem for the DTV transition, but call me skeptical.

I just wanted to see if there was anything official out there talking about this.

Will the "Service Alert" go away on its own?

I have the service alert icon on my tasks strip. Hopefully it will go away tomorrow...

I read thru all the how-to from the service alert and did the setup for tunners, but ever since the update last tuesday all my OTA HD channels show no data in my guide now. My channles show 12.1 15.1 ect on singal test so don't think thats the problem. When ever it tries to get update guide it says downloading, then like sec later it says it's done and guide is still blank.... What am I missing here? I'm running Vista wiith sp2 and same HD tunners I've been running for over 1yr now with no problems. Any help would be great, thanks.

P.S my zip is 85257 here in PHX,AZ if that helps.

    Thundar,

Sorry but I have no answer for you.  I ran the setup again and downloaded the guides...still same old same old right now.  I have the same digital sub-channel issue where the guide listings are the same as the first channel.  I am hoping it will magically correct itself today

We currently plan to remove the Service Alert on 6/26.

    Tim,

That is good to know, but are their plans to implement the correct EPG data for the sub-channels for those of us that use Vista with an OTA antenna?

I would be happy with just regular channels EPG data... Don't know if matters, but the stations play fine, just no EPG data so no shows are recording. Its almost like the servers for the updates are off or don't have the data on them for my zip.

The server guys have posted a notice that they are investigating why some users are experiencing guide outtages. They'll probably update the thread when the issue is resolved: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/367678.aspx
