The name "Hulu Desktop" still doesn't imply they want it on a TV.  Their marketing for it seems to be very focused on PC.

Brent has a great post that looks at the TOS for Hulu Desktop and specifically notes that it is for "Personal Computers" only.

No problem - I just happen to have a 50" computer monitor on my "Personal Computer"

I dont want to steal his (Mikinhosoft) thunder but this program does just that.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Launchers-Shutdown-Tools/Media-Center-Launcher.shtml

I have this working and it works pretty well.  You just have to change the .ini file to call the hulu exe instead of the powerDVD.

Actually, this is a more flexible launcher program:

    http://chaddyess.com/2009-01/media-center-launcher-configurator/

Ive tried that one. Did it restore MC back to full screen after Hulu was closed?  Anyway, the Mikinhosoft program didnt which was unacceptable to so I wrote my own launcher which monitors the process and when its closed restores MC to full screen.  I was going to do some quick testing tonight and post it, if anyone wanted it.

This is REALLY cool. I just used MC MenuMender to add it to my VMC TV Pack machine and it TOTALLY rocks. Just a simple checkbox in MCMM to tell it to stop playback of the now playing upon launch and that's it! Launches full screen--MCE remote works great--clicking exit in the app or the green button brings her back in VMC. Now that I have an xbox I have to be like all the rest of the extender folks..... Will this work on an extender? :) (My MCMM App doesn't show up on my xbox)

Do the transport controls work with an MCE remote ? Mine don't appear to be working pressing, pause, stop etc does nothing, probably the Imon VFD software causing issues again.

I can use the arrow keys on the MCE remote to navgate, the OK and Clear buttons works.

BTW I also use MC Menu Mender to add a Hulu Desktop icon in MC, both the Hulu Desktop add-ins I tried didn't work properly.

    Cheers.

Edit: According to the Missing Remote article the MCE remotes should work.

Which remote controls work with Hulu Desktop?
Hulu Desktop will work with Apple and Windows Media Center remotes. Remotes that are compatible with Windows XP and Vista can be purchases at most electronics retailers.

Must be something to do with the Imon software again has anyone else had problems with this?

In HULU Desktop, the OK button on the remote pauses and plays alternately. The up and down buttons are volume, altho the volume buttons work, too. Right and left are navigation. The back button returns to the HULU Desktop menu. But the normal pause and play buttons etc on the remote don't work as in MC.

Dumb, It will die off if they start charging for it. Well, I might if they start offering all videos in 720p/1080i with 5.1 audio, then I might think about it.

I think viewing ads is acceptable for the service and being able to watch it, if it's paid, I would expect ad free on all content. Do you think it would be affordable then ?

Hi-Res with 5.1 would be enticing.

If you look on Hulu's Desktop fourm, look for the post "Use More Remote buttons (DVR Control), Please ?"

That's from me, I agree it would be SOOOOOOOOO much better if you could use the controls on 95% of the remotes for the PC that are out there. DVR control would be awsome as playing around with the arrows and OK button for those functions can be a pain....

    Hey Chris,

I think it's time to consider the "5-foot experience."   It's not one I tend to use, but could this be the same group of people who seem to like having an iMac with that little Apple remote for FrontView?

No, it's not a TV, but it's not a PC.  I always imagined this "5-foot-experience" being the equiv. of a TV for a dormitory or Manhattan studio apartment.

If so, I'm fine with that, because as long as a remote is involved, then it doesn't much matter if it's 5 feet or 10 feet (or in my case, 18 feet) away.

I found a great Hulu Desktop add-on that allows you to access it from the Media Center from the guy that came up with SecondRun.tv. Check it out at www.secondrun.tv

I found with MC Menu Mender you can add anything anywhere in media center and it will automatically launch and full screen whatever it is.

Many of you may already know this, but you can set an app to always open maximized by right clicking on the app's shortcut icon, then choose Properties. When the Properties dialog box opens up, under the Shortcut tab, look for the Run drop down menu. Choose Maximized and click the OK button. This is a built-in feature of Windows. You don't need any additional software to do this.

Sorry to necro a thread, it's just that I haven't found anything that is similar in subject. I have an MCE remote (Adesso ARC-1100) that I use with Win7MC but it doesn't seem to work fully with Hulu Desktop.

The directional 4 buttons, back, and the center 'ok' button works. However, the Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause, Stop, & skip buttons do nothing when I press them on the remote in Hulu Desktop. *ALL* buttons work perfectly in Windows Media Center. Am I missing something?

You're not missing nything, everything works within the confines of the buttons you had mentioned.  Press the 'ok' button and select 'video navigation' if you want to scoot back or forth.  Pressing left or right should work.
