Media Extender coming to Toshiba Regza LCD TVs and DVD players

This is huge!  Much bigger than HP's previous offering.  No offense to you at HP..you make an awesome Windows Home Server and touch enabled PC.

I have a Linksys DMA2100 extender tucked behind a Toshiba LCD HDTV in the kitchen.  It would be nice to have an all-in-one integrated unit.

That could be interesting having the screens themselves be UPnP/MS Extender. At least there wouldnt be the fan noise as from xbox.

Did someone mention recently that there was a chipset implementation of MCE extender just about to come to market? I'm sure I read that somewhere but can't find it now. Perhaps this could be the start of a flood of enabled devices - we can but hope?

The DVD Player/Media Center Extender will use the Intel CE3100 chip according to this article.

Will this be the first Extender not based on a Sigma Designs Chip??

    From Toshiba's Official Press Release

Eric B. Kim, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital Home Group,
Intel Corporation, says, "Intel`s consumer electronics platform, including the
Intel Media Processor CE 3100 and Widget Channel, provide performance,
flexibility and Internet compatibility, which help Toshiba to develop a new
generation of connected devices. These new services will extend the Internet
into the TV viewing experience, and transform the way consumers enjoy personal
    entertainment."

I just skimmed the pdf and it seems to me like if they include this this chip, they will have more than enough power and hardware decoding to give us users a 360-like experience while using the Media Center. I expect we will know a lot more about the TVs at least by the time Windows 7 comes out.

It is worth noting that this article says nothing about the box being an Extender.  I think your reading into something that isn't there.

I'm not saying this can't be an Extender, but nowhere in that article does it say anything about it.
