How to actually Stop the "Now Playing".

    Hello,

Got a bit of an annoyance.

I have a VMC pc, with all my media on a HP mediasmart server. Whenever I play a movie in MC, when its done I press the stop button, then if I go back to the start page, the movie is still displayed in the "now playing" section. If I go to any other page, I still get the little PIP in the lower left corner (another topic, is there any way to make that PIP larger??).

Not that big of a deal but it shouldnt be there if I pressed "Stop" I would believe. The bigger problem is that this means VMC never releases the files from the WHS shares so I constantly get file conflicts on the WHS saying the files are open.

Again, I would think pressing stop should release all files but it isn't. Is this just me or is this the "normal" operation?

    Thanks

Really??? No one has any ideas??

I thought this was the "go to" place for Media Center.

I usually pres "stop" twice and the Now Playing strip disappears.

I can press stop 5 times, doesn't make a difference. The Now Palaying will still show the last played video.

I have the same issue. But I'm not using a WHS. After stopping the movie (MKV) if that makes a difference. It will be in the corner and in the "now playing" so If i go back to the main menu. and decide not to use VMC anymore and switch to my cable box, the movie will begin to play again(after a short while), without me playing it. It will also sometimes start playing again when I switch back to VMC. and I'm just on the Main Menu, like it doesn't release the file. the "Stop" function is almost like its just pausing the movie. I'm using MyMovies in conjunction with VMC.

    BUMP...any solution for this???

Movie files are always staying in "Now Playing" for me...this is a PAIN. Even if the movie is rolling credits I can't get it to go away. To compound the problem, when I try to use Yougle I have it set up to minimize VMC and bring youtube vid to fullscreen. This causes the movie to start playing again in the background...this is the last real annoyance I have with my media PC (although I'm sure I'll find a new one soon).

I am also getting this annoying behavior.  The stupid thing is, it didn't used to do this!  I am absolutely positive that it did not.  It is just something that has started to happen very recently.  I think it stharted happening somewhere around the time I switched from using a VGA cable from the computer to the HDTV, to an HDMI cable from the computer to the HDTV.  This also happens on two separate machines.  They are both using VMC x64 edition, with HDMI cables to HDTV's.  What happens is that I will play something under the Video Library, and once it's done, I hit done.  If I then go back to the main page, and turn off the TV, the next time I turn on the TV, the movie begins to play in the background.  Or if I minimize VMC or something like that.  It does NOT happen when watching the files under Recorded TV.  In fact, when I am in this situation, I have to go to recorded TV, start playing something there, stop it, and the Now Playing, goes away.  It's really strange.  I don't see how this can be normal behavior as that one person wrote, especially since it didn't used to do that!

Is there something strange about using an HDMI cable that causes it, or something completely different?

One way I get around this is to go to Live TV for a second then stop it, and it essentially "ejects" the previously playing movie or video clip. There must be some way to create a button that would do that. Why this isn't the native behavior of VMC is beyond me.

In MCE2005 I used a plugin called "mceHideSVP". I have not tried it with Vista MC. It is at http://www.scendix.com/hidesvp/

I have this happen too. I'm using build 7100 of 7MC.

It seems like it only happens with movies that I watch with media browser.
It doesn't happen with Live or Recorded TV. I've just gotten used to it now, but it is annoying. Like another poster said, you can start live tv, and then stop it, and it goes away.

I don't know dude, seems like stop should mean stop and therefore NOT be 'now playing'.  Calling it 'normal' doesn't make it right.  Seems like someone got STOP and PAUSE confused.  I can see where pausing would cause it to stay in the now playing with the file open, but once I stop it, it should close and release the file so I can delete it or whatever I want without having to start playing something else.  No disrespect intended, there is a fundamental difference between stopping something and pausing it, VMC programming group might have intended it to be the way it is, but maybe that could be reviewed and changed if appropriate.

My follow-up would then be what's the difference between stopping it and pausing it from the users perspective?

He was really just pointing out that it was normal behavior for VMC, not that it was normal behavior for any media player.

    It's not.
Normal beheviour is when stop is pressed, the Playing Now strip is being removed from the main screen.
