Nope... Right now it has both detected... So you would suggest disabling one or how would you suggest it?

In the setup process of the TV Signal, you have the choice of choosing one tuner or two tuners. Try just one.

Open MCE and go to Settings, TV, Set Up TV Signal.

Is there a tool to preoccupy a tuner so that you can switch between tuners whenever you want?

I followed the hack steps on my MCE box and everything is working fine. Only difficulty I am having is with switching between tuners back and forth.

No tool per se that I have found. If you want to use the opposite tuner, just record on the current and switch to the desired channel.

OK - along these lines - is there a dual tuner that does HDTV (at least one channel) and will work in MCE 2005 by itself (ONLY ONE PCI slot available for tuner.

Basically, I want HDTV in MCE2005, but have read everywhere that there must be an analog tuner also to work in MCE2005.

I have a an ATI 800XT if it matters.

    Hi,

I'm on the team for the dual-tuner feature here at Microsoft Corp.  Can I confirm whether you prefer using the STB-tuner as the primary live TV or the primary recording tuner?

I've seen the post about pre-occupying the non-STB tuner with a recording.  Are there any other 'tricks' you must perform to watch (or record) what you want?  Are you noticing any new patterns in how you record or watch live tv?

We're investigating support for various configurations and we'd like your feedback on how this hack is working out for you.

RE: Dual Tuner Hacks: using and controlling different TV Card sources

My set up is a bit different, and I didn't end up using the hack, but I wanted to mention something about the preferred record and watch settings. I notice that from time to time, when neither of my tuners are occupied, MCE will use the preffered watch tuner to record something. Typically, this wouldn't be a problem, but in my case, the STB that's on the preffered watch tuner is actually of lesser quality with analog channels right now (the Comcast 6412's are this way), so I'd prefer that MCE always records with the preffered record tuner. Has anyone else seen this behavior? I see this even when no one has been home, so there was no one watching live tv for well past the 1/2 hour record buffer (after pressing stop on live tv)...

Of course my STB's would be identical if I could record HDTV off of them, but that is a different complaint ;-)

RE: Dual Tuner Hacks: using and controlling different TV Card sources

After a month of use, the dual tuner hack setup works as I thought it would. The preferred record is the STB and most shows are recorded with that tuner. The STB is an S-Video out to the tuner and produces better quality than the direct connection. And the STB has all 999 channels where the direct is <125. The real downfall with watching live tv with the STB is the INCREDIBLY frustrating experience of channel surfing with the delayed infrared blaster setup. Why using the channel down button, MCE just changes the channel too slow. You can get several channels ahead and you end up waiting for MCE to catch up. This is not acceptable for my wife (very low tolerance for techno glitches).

I would love to see the STB channel changing process improve. Also, if you could assign a remote key to "switch tuners", this would be fantastic.

RE: Dual Tuner Hacks: using and controlling different TV Card sources

This seems like an excellent hack. i was wondering whether any of you with your experience in this field can solve a far simpler yet infuriating problem? I am in the uk and have a system with two analogue tuner cards and one satellite source. I have my sat source plumbed around the house on channel 68 and would like to use my media center to record off this. However the flaw is that if i set it up to use the sat it will record everything off sat, including the terrestrial channels 1-5. This is highly inefficient as it ties up my sky box for terrestrial tv. Therefore is there any was to hack the guide so that i have the satellite guide, but so that channels 1-5 of terrestrial tv are set to record off normal terrestrial via my tuners and any sky programs i record are recorded off channel 68. I know it wont be perfect as i only have one sat box but its better than nothing.

I have had a small amount of success by setting up the  guide for satellite and then changing the tv source back to terrestrial without altering the guide and then changing the UHF channels in the guide setup. However after a short period of time the guide fails to update.

Any help would be much appreciated and im sure there are more people in the UK who would benefit from your help.

    Thanks

    Dave

(p.s. sorry about the long post)

RE: Dual Tuner Hacks: using and controlling different TV Card sources

Ok, I have read the whole of this thread and I am very interested in getting this to work but I would like some thoughts before I start.. This is the current configuration:-

    I have x2 Happauge 250 cards.

I have two set top boxes - first is getting digital OTA (I am in Australia). The second box is Analogue Satellite Foxtel box.

At the moment I have the OTA STB connected and I am using EPGrunner (unofficial guide for Australians).

What I want to do is as follows:-

    1. Use both STB's connecting via a component connection into MCE.

    2. A single guide where the OTA channels correspond to the missing channels on the cable (foxtel) box.

So will this hack work with this configuration?

    Thanks for any suggestions..

    Simon,

Do both STB share the same channel lineup? If not, this config will not work for you. MCE only can utilize one EPG. If both STB share the same channel lineup, pick one of the tuners as your primary using this hack and allow MCE to fill its line using this STB guide.
