Vista SP1 (beta) Multiple Remote Desktops

On Sept 1st 2007 Raevmiza let us know that the hack did not work on the Beta.

As of today October 2nd 2008, the patch works, even though there may be problems.  Download this file and extract the files.  Run the batch file that corresponds to your version of Vista.

Vista Business and Vista Ultimate work.  Vista Premium may have problems with extenders clip boards and sound.  Please read the posts here and decide before using if it is worth it to you.

    Download from either site.

Re: Vista SP1 (beta) Multiple Remote Desktops

It must be a registry change...
Can you somehow compare the old settings with the new settings?
I'm having a hard time believing that MS did a "big patch" to disable multiple instances of RDP on premium.

They must have set a _hard_ limit on simultaneus processes of a single DLL
That would be the easiest way to disable several users at the same time connecting to the Terminal Server.
I believe their patch consists of:
    1) switch termsrv.dll (that one was easy)
    2) User can only be logged on ONCE (if user connects to RDP and allready logged in-> switch)
    3) On RDP connecting -> if user is active at console -> lock workstation
    4) Hard limit the amount of simultaneus connections to ONE in registry

Have you tried connecting with Administrator?
And see how many connections you can open as him?

Re: Vista SP1 (beta) Multiple Remote Desktops

In Vista Business SP1, v275 i have the following key:
    in:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server]
There is a key named: [fSingleSessionPerUser] and it is set to [1]

I don't know if this helps...bus Business is "born" with RDP - so it might be a good source for spotting changes.
If you don't have the key try and make it and set it to 0

That should disable the Single session per user configuration/limit.

    Zoso.

I try this but it's not working. Replacing the dll file and changing the value does not allow me to login. I'm getting the error that the host computer could noit be reached. With the orginaln dll file and the registry set to 0 i can login but another user still get logged off

Re: Vista SP1 (beta) Multiple Remote Desktops

I am going to have to install it on a real machine to work on it more.  My virtual machine with SP1 runs like a dog.  So far they did a good job but I am working on it.  As soon as I figure out something more I will post.

Re: Vista SP1 (beta) Multiple Remote Desktops

There is a new version of the dll out.  I think it came down as an update.  The keys are different so I can not edit it.  I was hoping they just put stuff in to move it but I searched for the hex values with no success.  I wish someone knew who Noimp was so we could get him to find it for us.  They may also end up reverting to a previous version.  If they do we may be able to find the values again.

I'm not sure, but I would bet it would be a good idea to not worry about this until the final sp1 is released. It is hard to tell how many times the termsrv.dll file will change before the final sp1 is released, especially if they are trying to fix some bug in it or some security hole or something...

Re: Vista SP1 (beta) Multiple Remote Desktops

Ugh, we need a fix for this yesterday !!!! Thinking about restoring my backup of pre-sp1 beta. Found this tonight, I hope this new DLL allows me at least to RDP into my VMC box, I guess that's a start....

Dam you Microsoft !!!! This feature should be built into every version of Windows....Not disabled RDC...who was the brainchild who thought up that one ????

Edit: Tried it tonight, I still can not log in via RDP on my VMC sp1 beta box....plz help...(no errors detected when updating)
