I'm betting it won't. I actually found some cards that are like $80 instead of $500, so I may upgrade afterall. Dammit.

    Here's one:

Found it via good ole www.pricewatch.com

I got myself a PNY 5700 LE last night, only to find out that I need a 300W power supply and a motherboard that requires AGP 2.0. Guess I'll have to do some more upgrading. This computer is an HP Vectra VL420 that I got from work... it's kind of old I guess. It has an Asus P4B-MX mobo. I'll have to give it back to them some day anyway, so maybe I'll just buy a barebones box for my media center pc or something.

This Excel spreadsheet has more video cards that aren't in the list on the first page of this thread, too:

Well, my new box works great. Finally I can enjoy mce 2005. Yay! Now that I have a better video card I gotta install HL2 on the MCE box so I can play HL2 in the dark on my plasma.

    RE: mce2005 comptable videio cards

I know now why the ATI 9600 Pro is not on the MS recommended list for MCE 2k5.

It works fine on ntsc but for HDTV only the 720P stations are acceptable. The 1080I

stations, such as CBS, go in and out of audio sync and also have a 'jerkiness about them'.

Also the 1080i doesn't follow rapid motion well at all, although this could be a broadcast

bandwidth issue.  My guess is the 9800 card is a minimum hit for hdtv.  Also I found that

I could use a different windvd decoder and the 1080i appeared in sync, however it was not

compatible with MCE 2k5.  It kept crashing the computer during guide usage.

    Comments?

There is a MS patch for 1080i VMR9 problem, I think NVDIA will include the MS patch in their up comming patch after Thanksgiving. I too have ATI 9600 and suffer the stutter video. With the NVIDIA decoder, you can change the interlace control from Automatic to Film, it works better for HDTV 1080i, but you have to switch back to Automatic when you watch stv.

I have a Radeon 9200 and downloaded the ATI MCE drivers.  I've disabled the crappy on-board VGA and installed the MCE drivers.  I'm still getting the incompatible video card notice when I start MCE.

    Any help?

    RE: mce2005 comptable videio cards

I was using an ATI Radeon 9200 on my system and it worked fine with MCE 2004 as well as MCE 2005.  Then I added an HDTV card.  With HDTV sources, most channels had the video lagging behind the audio (sync problem) and video data was being dropped in order to keep the video moving (jerkiness).

I have since upgraded to a Nvidia FX5700 and it is smooth for both audio and video on analog as well as HDTV channels.

Video cards do make a difference!  I believe that Microsoft is dropping support for the lesser video cards in order to ensure that all MCE 2005 systems are capable of viewing HDTV.

I was under the impression that the PNY Geforce 5200 was supported as its listed on the microsoft page. The SVHS out is very good on my Panasonic TV.

RE: MCE 2005 Compatible Video Cards

I can contest that 9200 radeon does work in MCE2005.  I've also tried 6600GT and it works beautifully.  But now I am trying to get a geforce 3 ti 200 to work...it will play WMV HD and all other video clip in WMP just fine, but for some reason no TV or video can be displayed thru MCE interface.  Did someone else here has better luck using Geforce 3 Ti 200?
