RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

I was just curious what exactly the check boxes on the file watcher tab do...  I know the monitor delete should remove the XML files once the DVR-MS is removed but the others I am not quite sure of...

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

hey babgVant, just wanted to say thanks and great job!

i finally got some time to install the latest version and it works great.  i like the options during setup to install/not install ShowAnalyzer/File Watcher Service/Comm Skip Addin.  I prefer to manually install the latest ShowAnalyzer and I use DragonGlobal's DirMon2 instead of File Watcher.  So, those new options are awesome!

i was the one who was having problems with the last commercial span being short.  the changes you made fixed it.

thanks again for your app and for all the hard work.  you really deserve a lot of credit.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

I've been meaning to add some tool tips to those, just never got around to it.

Log Create: write an event when a dvr-ms file is created
Log Write: write an event when a dvr-ms file is written to (i.e. the recording buffer flushes to disk)
Log Poll: write an event detailing the results of the queue polling that occurs when items are in the file queue
Log Delete: write an event when a dvr-ms file is deleted
Queue on Update: add updated dvr-ms file to the queue if it does not exist
Monitor Delete: delete corresponding commercial file when dvr-ms file is deleted.

glad you like it...

out of curiosity why do you use dirmon2? simple preference, feature differential, etc...

I got these two errors then a rollback on an MCE machine with no tuner installed... working on getting it fixed using the posts here.

hi babgvant,

first off let me say THANK YOU, for turning filewatcher into a service.  i also couldn't believe you got around to creating the prompt on scan feature!  i asked you for two features and they're done.  thank you so much for taking everyone's feedback and building it into your code, i've never felt so involved in a piece of software before.

i was curious about what you meant by this bug fix in 1.0.9.7:

- Bug fixed in splicer where last span was not tested for length.

does that solve the following?

FW Begin Process D:\Recorded TV\CBS News Sunday Morning_WBZ_26_03_2006_09_00_02.dvr-ms
InputFile=D:\Recorded TV\CBS News Sunday Morning_WBZ_26_03_2006_09_00_02.dvr-ms
Processing actions, this may take some time!!
Profile = nativecommdetect
Migrate value in Context["InputFile"] to Context["TempMpeg"]
Duration = 00:00:00
Find Commercials in file
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Duration = 00:00:00.6875000

... if not, I'm having that problem as you can see, I think I read that you mentioned it happens when a splice is very small and that you would fix it in another rev.  I'm just not sure if that bug fix I quoted is the fix.  If it is, I still have the problem and would you have any ideas?

Jay.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

that fix was for the splicer action (cuts up a dvrms file), the last span wasn't tested for length before being added to the list.

the issue you are experiencing is with the commercial detect. unfortunetly, I can't fix it, as it's an issue with SA. Jere Jones (the author of SA) is very responsive to these kinds of things... I'd recomend posting something in his forum.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

i asked on the showanalyzer forum about broken profiles in SA and this is what the author told me..
themuss,
If babgvant sets the profile to something (and I don't know if he does) then the automatic profile selection code never gets run. If he doesn't (and I suspect he doesn't) can you send me a file and your global.ini so I can take a look at the meta data and your settings?
as far as i have tried, automatic profile detection seems broke in SA when running through DVRMS. could you please tell me if you set the profile to something so i can report back to him?

thank you

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

Hi,
I now have the plug in working with Videoredo plus instead of SA. I just selected the do nothing profile and changed the ProcessExe to my own little app that runs Videoredo.

Just a couple of minor requests.
-Doco with details on what all of the settings do in FileWatcher and Commercial Skip tabs and how the tools work.
-Perhaps a menu/button or utility that can kick off Filewatcher to perform a check now, this would help with troubleshooting.
-Perhaps a status GUI/menu which shows the files that have been processed, are currently processing and are queued.

Thanks very much for a great tool.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

Thanks bab, yeah, after taking a look over there it seems there's a few people with that problem... looks like you've been hearing about it since last year.   We might want to think about making an FAQ wiki, or add to your other wiki.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

here's one I've been thinking about as a next step to the prompt on scan feature, I get the feeling it would be difficult or near impossible.

what about having the ability to set process condioning within the MCE interface somewhere.  in my case, i use dvrmstoolbox simply to create commercial skip files, i don't convert or cut anything.

the process condioning i add / setup spefically refers to setting up "do nothing" arguments for specifc channels (using wmv callsign attribute) and others by show (using the title attribute).  for example, using process conditioning, i have set the movie channels not to be analyzed because there are no commercials.

i'd love to be able to go into my scheduled recordings and even into my scheduled series and choose turn off commercian detection for them individually.

that's my personal wish, but if this can be done, i get the real feeling that it could become increadible useful to other people for other things.  i think an mce interface for the dvrmstoolbox is a natural progression, the only thing is how difficult it would be to actually pull it off.

that's my 2 cents for now.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

actually, it's probably more work using dirmon2 than just using your file watcher service.  i had problems with the file watcher piece in the old version and switched over to dirmon2.  so when i installed v1.0.9.7, i guess i went with dirmon2 simply cuz i knew i could make it work.  i should probably try new file watcher at some point and compare the two.

RE: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

I have a bunch of shows that I recorded and haven't gotten to yet so I wanted to use this to clips the commericals.  It seems to use an extremely large amount of memory.  My media center only has 1gig in it and this program seems to be pulling 1.6gig+ causing my hard drive to go nuts due to paging.  I didn't read all the responces but is anyone else having this issue?
