RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Sorry for not being able to get around to this for a while...things got a little nuts around the house and at work lately and I just found the time to do this.  There's got to be something screwy going on here.  When I use the graph file within GraphEdit to open a firewire recording, it starts off looking just fine.  I just left it alone for a few hours, came back to it, and after it had created a .mpg of about 55MB, it just stopped...no errors, nothing...just stopped working completely and the resulting .mpg is unplayable.  I'm beginning to have doubts if I'll be able to do anything with these firewire recordings which is a little disappoointing.  Oh well...if you have any ideas, I'm all ears!

    Thanks!

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

i'm incorporating that graph into the tool (the new dvrms2mpeg action); it will detect the type of dvrms and build the graph accordingly.

for those who interested, the following items will be in the next release:
    - drms2mpegstrems will detect if the dvms file needs a decrypt filter, and add it if necessary, can be configured to mux a/v or output seperate mpeg streams like before, explict graph building so the graph should always build correctly (i've had some problems with the original dvrmstompeg graphbuilder not always connecting correctly. the cost is that it will not support the /gf arg (but the orginal action still will if you need dynamic graph rendering)
    - dvrmscutoutcommercials will attempt to recover from a failed splice by creating a new source dvrms file and splicing that
    - new action to dump the detected commercials, the main purpose will be for an add-in the can be used to change the position to the end of the commercial. if you just want to skip commercials, you won't have to splice the file. the big benefit here is that when the commercials are incorrectly detected that section is still there, it can be rwd.
    - findcommercials will check to see if an existing commercial detect was dumped, if it has then it will use that instead of running comskip again.
    - (if I have time) an addin to read the commercial detection and skip the commercial by pressing the up (move to end of commercial) or down (move to the begining of the commercial)

I hope to have this all ready by next weekend

Bab, could you please elaborate a bit more on this, I'm not clear. Thanks,

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Could someone PLEASE tell me how to use this software?  It's frustating me beyond all comprehension.

I unzipped the file "InstallDVRMSToolbox.zip" and installed the setup.msi file.  All I want to do is convert my Recorded TV to Mpeg.  When I click on the "DVRtoMPEGGUI" I get the window that has two blanks ("input file" and "output file").  There is a "run" button below.  But there is no button to browse and selected my recorded TV show that I want to make an Mpeg.

What am I missing?  Is there some other step(s) that I need to do?  All I want is an Mpeg of the TV show so that I can edit it and burn to DVD with TMPGenc Author.

Thanks a bunch for your assistance.  I'm thoroughly confused.

Just double-click in either the input file or output file boxes and you'll be able to browse for the file to convert.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Thanks for adding detection of encrypted/decrypted files. Will it also hanle detection of Closed caption streams or not? I recently added support for Closed Captions to the firewire recording so the dvr-ms files are not encrypted but now contain 3 streams: audio, video and line21 rather than the sample GhostLobster sent you which only contained audio and video.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

it will dump the captions as a seperate file, I haven't been able to find a muxer that supports captions.

do you know if it's possible to make the SBE (i'm assuming that's what you're using to write the files) output mpeg files, or will it only write dvr-ms?

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

I believe it is hard-wired into SBE to generate dvr-ms and yes thats what I use.

I use cccp.ax to demux the CC stream from the mpeg2 video stream so I can out audio, video and cc separately in the dvr-ms file, which is what MCE wants. Its probably not that difficult to take the source for that filter and reverse it, so it mux video and CC into a muxed video stream.

The guy who wrote cccp.ax is zodiak on the dvbn.happysat.org website.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

I just installed version 1.0.8.2.  I was able to convert a DVR-MS to a WMV using the GUI.  However, I've been unable to get any other conversions to work (using the built-in conversion processes).  Specifically, removing commercials (any format destination) or just converting to an MPG all fail.  I've attached one of the logs (from converting to an MPG).

Any ideas what I can do to fix this?  I'm most interested in commercial removal and MPG or DRV-MS format destinations.  Unfortunately, the format that worked is the least interesting one for me.

    Thanks,

       John

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

the new action creates an xml file with the start/end times for the commercials detected by comskip.

the main purpose for this xml file is an mce add-in that will use the start/end times to skip the commercials when you tell it to. the benefit is that you won't need to actually cut out the commercials and produce a new dvr-ms file, it should use the original.

a secondary benefit, is that the xml file can be used by the findcommercials action, so if the process fails for some reason it doesn't need to detect the commercials again it can just use the file and save the time it takes to run comskip.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

    does this happen everytime?

there's another action to unwrap the dvr-ms into mpeg in the tool. this version it dumps the seperate mpeg streams (which will work for commercial detection); but the next version it can be configured to mux the streams into an mpeg file. this action builds the graph explicitly so you shouldn't have this problem.

Oh MY! I'm so excited about this. You may not remember but way back in the earlier parts of the first thread for dvrms2mpeg I was asking if such a process would be possible, thus eliminating the need to re-write the file. It will be a fantastic addition for timeshifters like me. I know that archivers will want the processed file, but I just want to skip commercials when I watch TV.

Am I correct in thinking that this process you're describing would effectively bypass the splicing issues that we're currently contending with?

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

    babqVant,

I've been with this project from way back :-)  I asked you about what you used to program the tool with...long story... anyway, I bought Visual Studio .Net and with my huge wealth of programming skill (ha ha) I thought I would try and make a different GUI for the tool.. for all the beginners out there.

Well, sorry to say, I suck as a programmer...I can't get it to work, but I thought I'd post a shot of what I had in mind and see if it would be something you could do or if someone else out there with a better handle on the .Net software would want to do.

I just think that the GUI tool now can scare off some new people because it offers so many options.  Here's what I had in mind:

    DVRMS TOOLBOX GUI 2

As you can see, same input/output except for the ... button many people are used to.  Once the Source is selected, put it in a windows with a slider that they can move to see the specific frames... this would let them pick a start frame and end frame for the entire file.  Put it on the start, click Mark Beginning, put it on the end and click Mark Ending, the program would clip the file there.

Then the obvious Remove Commercials Checkbox and then they could pick the output format from a dropdown...

Anyhow, what's your thoughts?  Hope I'm not being to presumptuous asking you to redesign your own program

    Thanks!

    Tim
