RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

I have 2 tuners in my MCE and one firewire box currently. I think i am in the same boat as timmyDotcom. I can use channell -v 2 200 and it will change to channel 200, it changes alot fast than IR but I can't get mtray to work.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

I downloaded the latest firewire.zip, reinstalled the hardware, registered tunertracker.dll, rebooted & ran mytray.exe (extended info no longer showing up), still nothing in mediacenter, still works perfect from command line.

    Here's my logs.

sidenote: I have only one stb and no other tuners, I am seeing combo boxes for tuner1 & tuner2 in mytray.exe, is there a right and wrong one to select?, is it ok to select the same uniqueid on both tuner1 & tuner 2 (what I've been doing)

    Thank you!

    Fleck

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Looks like you all have the same problem. I can't see the problem but it looks like its in the scanning for the correct device to match. I have updated mytray.exe with a lot of logging in this area but no real fixes so I dont expect it to work. Can you do the following

    close running mytray

    delete %temp%\tuner.log

copy new mytray.exe and run it

open dialog and select tuner in each combobox

    Post tuner.log

If you only have 1 firewire stb then only 1 combobox should appear. I did see a problem with that logic which I fixed, so only 1 combo should appear now, but since it relies on the output of the device scanning it still may not work.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

OK, I installed the latest build. Now, one thing I should mention is that MyTray.exe does not stay running. I'm not sure if it is supposed to, but when you click "OK" it closes the MyTray app everytime. When I'm in MCE, I usually leave it up and I can see it logging within the MyTray window.

Also, in this build I wasn't able to choose the Tuners, because there were no drop down boxes, but there was a new "Enable Firewire Recording" button that I haven't seen before. (See attached .jpg)

In any case, here is the tuner log none-the-less. Still no channel changing in MCE:

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Thanks TimmyDOTcom, this helps. One more thing can you run

    regedit

    go to My Computer -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Media Center -> Service -> Video -> Tuners

Then right click on Tuners, select export. Give a filename and then post as an attachment.

Theres something different about your registry and mine. Which analogue tuners are you using?

The comboboxs are greyed out because it can't find any MCE tuners to assoicate the firewire interfaces to. This is the heart of the problem.

The "Enable Firewire Recording" is new. I have just integrated my test code to record via firewire. Its not working yet so I wouldn't enable it yet.

Clicking the OK button will close the app. I will hide those buttons since they aren't much use.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Here is the Tuner regedit export attached as a .zip.

    I am using 2 Hauppauge WinTV 250 MCE's.

Are you planning to include Firewire recording within MCE, in place of the analog tuners? If you can pull this off, you will be an MCE GOD!!! I'll test any code, once you are ready to test it.

So, should I click OK on MyTray or just leave it open?

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Thanks TimmyDOTcom, that did it, simple problem. I had hard coded the max size of the buffer I was reading the DevPath into. Hauppauge driver name is longer and fails. I would guess anyone with Hauppauge tuners had problems and anyone with NVIDIA was ok.

I uploaded a fixed version. I also changed the combobox to handle 2 tuners in MCE but only 1 in firewire. The combobox has a N/A entry. If you have 2 tuners but only 1 firewire, set the non-firewire tuner to N/A, Nathang, I think this applies to you.

The current plan in to record via firewire in parallel the MCE recording, i.e. both systems are recording. I can then copy info that MCE adds to its recording across into my recording. For now, I am expecting you will see 2 entries in MCE's Recorded list, the normal one and one with "Fire" in front of the Title.

The recording code is in the latest version but I have A/Ved MyTray everytime during testing, fix a bug/find another, . So I wouldn't enable it just yet. As long as the checkbox is disabled it shouldn't affect anything.

I have removed the OK/Cancel buttons. If you need to close use the x button

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Woohoo, it WORKS in MCE now!

BUT... It doesn't work from an MCX extender.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Great thanks TimmyDOTcom. I have an extender but haven't tried it. I dont understand why it doesn't work though, it shouldn't matter who is changing the channel as long as the eventing service (ehmsas) is reporting the events. I haven't tried seeing if I get any events from ehmsas if I do stuff on the extender. Which extender?

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

I have the Linksys, which is the same as the HP, but from what I've heard, The stand-alones and X-Boxes work the same on the actual MCE PC side.

There is actually a separate tuner.txt in the Temp directory of the MCX1 User Profile. I can send you that if you want.
[EDIT] Scratch that, there's nothing in the log file.

Is MyTray.exe accessible to the MCX1 user?

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

Yes please. If you could post both tuner.txt, the MCE and extender versions as attachments but before you do can you try changing channels on the extender to a couple of channels you haven't tried on the MCE and also let me know which channels you tried on the extender.

MCEs shouldn't need access to mytray.exe, they send commands to MCE requesting for tuners. ehmsas sends events including tuner channel change to anyone asking on the mce machine. So mytray runs only on the MCE but should get events about anyone changing channels.

I can't try a MCE until tomorrow. My extender is an XBox and my son left it paused in a game and doesn't get back until tomorrow.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

OK, I reset all tuner.txt & tuner.log log files, restarted the computer, then opened Media Center on the main PC and went to Live TV and tuned to channel 37, 38, 39, 40, 37, then hit record.

Then I changed channels (which switched to the other tuner, because the tuner was recording) to 301, 302, 303.

Then I went to the Extender, powered it on, went to Live TV, then tuned to 214, 215, 216, 214. It didn't change the channels. It remained on 37, which was recording on the main PC.

The tuner.txt log file in MCX1\Temp (the extender profile) is empty.

From a glance at the other logs it doesn't look like it tracked the Extenders change channel commands.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

I succeeded in my first recording over firewire within MCE. I was watching livetv within MCE, pressed record. MCE recorded its normal recording and at the same time a recording via firewire was made into dvr-ms format in the MCE Recorded TV directory. It shows up in the recorded tv list and can be played from there.

Theres still a long way to go, I copy a bunch of attributes across from the MCE recording to the firewire recording, some fail to be copied and MCE ignores others. I can't seek. I only get sound on HD channels, not on SD channels. I have found a number of cases where the filename that the recording is made under is not the same as the name of the program, it changes some letters. I have also found if you start a manual recording within 2/3 minutes of the start of a program it uses the name of the next program rather than the current program to name the file. So its difficult to match up the firewire recording with the MCE recording.

RE: Channel changing STBs using firewire

The seek not working is a limitation of the Nvidia DVD decoder, the Nvidia HDTV Demuxer does not support seek or FF/Rew. There is an Elecard demuxer that does but in trying it the play back is not a smooth sometimes. I did read in the avsforums that the elecard demuxer does not work well with the Nvidia filers. So I am going to try it with the cyberlink filter some time.
