RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Actually i did do that. two weeks ago i had wmp get my art for a song from each album just so mc can show the album. then i reinstalled o/s (need to reinstall again today cause things arent working). since my music was on a separate partition i didnt need to do anything to them. i added the library back into wmp then used MB to get info. MB transferred all info but no covers becuase i didnt have any. so thats when i went to amazon and got 2 then ran MB again and nothing showed up. i then did what you said and looked for the folder.jpg (showing hidden files) in the specific folder and nothing was there. once i chose view > thumbnails, i seen all my album art from before i reinstalled was still present but not showing in MC. so i then went to MB and transferred covers from wmp 2 itunes and all covers transferred and were viewable in itunes. so i then went back to MB and transferred covers from itunes 2 wmp and nothing.

since i was getting ready to reinstall i did copy all my music to another drive, is that a problem? i also have itunes keeping my library organized.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

OK. If you are sure that there is no folder.jpg file in the folder that is a problem. You say your music is on a seperate partition. Is it part of the same physical machine or is it located on the network, or on another machine.

All I can think is that there is a permission issue that is not allowing MusicBridge to write the folder.jpg file.

The weird part is you are saying you just (recently) did a cover sync from WMP to iTunes and this populated all the iTunes covers. To do that iTunes pulls folder.jpg files from the album folders. So to get album covers into iTunes from WMP folder.jpg files must exist...

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

so when i went from itunes 2 wmp (after i got them into itunes from wmp) why are the amazon images showing but not the ones i got from wmp? i have two hdd on one machine using one for tv. is the art not there because of the way itunes organizes the folders? i'll delete my copied music and see if that fixes anything. should i change any options in wmp as far as organizing or the 'media information' tab? i did the 'process media information' (have no idea what it did) it went through but nothing happened. should know something by 1pm EST.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Ok, so now I am confused.

Currently in iTunes you have album art for all albums except a few.

You added some art (from Amazon) into one of the iTunes files that does not have art.

You did a MusicBridge sync cover art TO WMP.

Only the art you added from Amazon shows up in WMP?

For all other album folders there are no folder.jp aor AlbumArt_xxxx.jpg files at all?

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

i just did an advanced search for art and the only jpgs i found were from amazon.

i also used 'album art fixer' but it found all the art thats already there and would not fix them because it thinks wmp sees them.

new problem, i got another image from amazon and now that one isnt showing up in wmp but in itunes. where are these images at and why are they not going away. is there a way for me to start over and just copy all my files somewhere then have itunes reorganze them or will they still have the wmp images?

is there a registry setting for album art? the only option i think i have is to delete everything and copy everything from my iPod to my PC again. this sucks because wmp doesnt recognize them and i'll have to reencode them into .m4a and also find the images.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Ok, it sounds to me like you MUST have some kind of .jpg files in your album folders. Have you got the "show hidden files" option turned on in your folder options?

I really want to be sure that there are no jpg files lurking that you are not seeing. If you are saying you see the images on the folders when you browse your album folders theough windows that means you have jpg files in each of those folders.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Ok, the fact that your folders have pictures mean that there are jpg files in your album folders. You need to change the settings for your folders

    Tools > Folder Options

    On the view tab

Select "Show hidden files and folders"

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

i tried that already numerous times even with the advanced search, they are not there and im done looking for the stupid things anyway...dont worry about this anymore, i deleted everything and am in the process of getting everything off my ipod now. the new ipodagent (.081), gets all my songs and syncs them with itunes (play count, rating) and now wmp sees them as well so all i have to do is get the art again. this time im gonna use amazon in itunes then use your MB to put them in wmp. i'll try one album art first before i go on an 2hr journey. i like the way MB feels and looks...good job and thanks for all the fast responses.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

I thought I was moderately computer literate, but I'm having difficulty with MusicBridge. Perhaps if I spell out what I've done in (boring) detail, it may be blindingly obvious to someone else where I've gone wrong.

The summary of my problem is that MusicBridge appears to complete correctly but doesn't write to the WMP database.

    1. My objective is to be able to access my non-DRMed collection of AAC music files using the 'My Music' line of the MCE 2005 remote control menu. I do not want WMP to fiddle with my music files, just play them; as I'd prefer to do all administration of the music library through iTunes. (So I have unchecked all the 'keep my library updated' options in WMP.)

    2. My understanding is that MCE and WMP10 share the music library, so I should be able to use MusicBridge to copy all the library data to the WMP Library. I saw the warning about folders, so the My Music and My Music/iTunes folders are both entered as watched folders in the Library tab of WMP options. (I've tried just doing one or the other, but makes no difference to final result.)

Hopefully I've understood so far. Bit embarrassing if not.

    3. So I installed iTunes, copied my iTunes music collection folder from the machnie it was created on to the MCE machine, and put it in the usual place (My Music\iTunes). iTunes can now see my library and play songs.

    4. I then installed Nero 6, which installs the Nero Digital codec. If I then explicitly open one of the AAC files in WMP (File>Open) and then choose 'All files' to display the .m4a files, they play correctly.

    5. I then install and run MusicBridge. (Slight wrinkle here, as I normally run as a Limited User, and use Runas (with the /env switch) to install with Admin privileges but in my current context. I've tried re-installing it as Admin at a console login, and even tried running the actual program as Admin to see if it writes to the Administrator's WMP database, but no joy).

    6. Then I run MusicBridge and choose the top left button. iTunes is invoked correctly (and MusicBridge is definitely talking to it because if I try and close it it warns that an application is using he scripting interface) and I get a warning saying 'Are you sure you want to overwrite WMP info with iTunes'.

    7. Lots of dots appear in the MusicBridge panel, presumably to show progress, and after a while 'Finished' appears. I knwo that MusicBridge is having *some* success talking to WMP because if I delete the CurrentDatabase_219.wmdb file for the current user before running MusicBridge, it gets re-created.

    8. But when I open up WMP, there appear to be no entries in the Library at all.

Am I doing something obviously wrong (good) or have I just completely misunderstood what MusicBridge is for (bad)?

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

that happened to me when i didnt add the files to my wmp library. in wmp you need to update your library by monitoring the folder then your files come up and stay there.

****Side note*** After i reinstalled o/s and got everything straight and re-uploded my ipod music with ratings and play count, my album art is gone now so i can go through the process again. So this time when i ran MB it wiped out all my ratings in itunes

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

cigga24 may have it. the key is that all your music files should appear in WMP BEFORE running MusicBridge. You can monitor the my music folder but in my experience this sometimes misses stuff. At least to start with you should use File > Add To Library > Add Folder... and choose the uppermost folder of all your AAC tunes (probably My Music/iTunes). WMP will do stuff for a while at the end of which all you music files will appear in the WMP library. They will look odd, because they will just have a name, and that name is simply pulled from the filename.

    Then you run MusicBridge.

Couple of points. The dots in this case actually represent files found in iTunes but not in WMP. If it finds a match you will see the message: "Josephine information being copied to Joesphine" for each match.

Additionaly in point 7 you mentione the WMP db being recreated, that is an automatic function of WMP.

Sorry for the confusion and I hope this helps, hopefully I'll find some time to actually write some documentation...

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Cigga, what do you mean MusicBridge wiped out your iTunes ratings? Did you do a sync from WMP? And that did it? Is this a bug you are reporting?

If you don't have a backup of your iTunes db your ratings should still at least be on your iPod files.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

i dont know what happened.  i got my updated my file info from my ipod which put al my ratings in my itunes library. when i ran MB "sync to WMP from iTunes" all my ratings started dissapearing. i thought it was just one album but they all went bye bye. i was a little upset but i can have ipodAgent put them there again but it'll take a long time going through 2100 songs. the bad thing is if i run MB again it most likely will wipe them off again. If you have an ipod and .net try using ipodAgent .081 google should have it. so i guess i am reporting a bug.

also when you say backup of my itunes db...do you mean a file or all my music. where is this db file?
