RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

So how will the folder.jpg work exactly??? I am stlll a bit confused by how WM10 and MCE deals with this.

So basically you will (1) check for folder.jpg and (2) Art INSIDE the MP3

If #1 does not exists adn #2 exists then copy #2 to #1?

Also how is the playlist function coming?

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

It looks for art in the iTunes file, if it's there it creates the folder.jpg in the album folder of that song. It overwrites existing files right now, I could add that as an option at some point. It also does a little work to skip writing the jpg file out for each track of the CD. This appears to work fine for WMP10 and MCE, I think they may have simplified the art handling from WMP9 where it was a little messed up.

The playlist stuff is coming... iTunes to WMP is currently implemented, it is not as elegant as I would like, and I need to add in some output messages and error handling.

WMP to iTunes will be a little ugly and not particularly efficient, but it should work.

The playlist sync didn't really fit into my original architecture, and I didn't really build it as modular as I could have to just keep it simple, but it should work ok.

By interpret I am guessing you mean artist?

I think that is because I am setting album artist in WMP to artist from iTunes. For non-coimpilations this makes sense. I can probably check the 'compilation' flag on the iTunes file and set the album artist to 'compilation'. Is that right, should the album artist be set to compilation? or various? I'll have to experiment.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

You are right, sorry for the mix up... I was referring to the "artist" not "interpret" entry.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

In my equivalent hack, I checked for the compilation flag and set the Album Artist (not Artist) to "Various Artists".

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

OK, I added the check for the compilation flag. I suppose I need to set this coming back the other way. My plan is to look for album artist = "Various Artists" and set the flag in iTunes. This is hardly elegant... Especially if your compilations are tagged with a different album artist...

Thank you for listening to the feauture request... when will you release the new beta to public? I am eager to test it with my compilations...

    Regards,

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

I have the sync iTunes to WMP finished, and I am working on the reverse of that. It is going to be really really ugly to sync playlists from WMP to iTunes, but I should get it done by the end of the week. Then I'll post it up.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Good news!!! Syncing playlists to iTunes was much less ugly than I had feared. I have it running as I type this.

One question. Do I need a switch to allow the skipping of "smart" playlists?

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Ok, here it is. MusicBridge 1.5

I didn't do a LOT of QA (which is somewhat ironic), so please let me know asap if you find any regressions:

    ==========================

    Version 1.5 March 8th 2005

    Change History:

Added functionality to sync playlists in both directions.

Added functionality to deal with compilations when doing an "All" sync in either direction.

    Known Issues:

Imported WMP playlists have some weird problem where ratings don't seem to show up.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Still rebuilding my files after my music HD died, but will try this as soon as I am done.

Don't know if this may help with this app, but here is a link to a third party decoder for Apple Lossless:

    http://craz.net/programs/itunes/alac.html

Supposedly an encoder would be possible as well. Here is a discussion of the decoder:

Thanks for a great contribution to WMP and MCE.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

    Hi there,

thanks for posting the MusicBridge 1.5 version!

The compilation check now works fine for me. However I am experiencing strange behaviour on my system - can other users verify that? v. 1.5 does not create folder.jpg files from .m4a files, although the cover art shows up fine within iTunes. Also, .m4a files are not imported at all to the media center library. Now I am stuck again with my mp3 files and can not use my itunes encoded music from within media center...

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Sorry to hear that. I just ran test for covers in both directions and they both worked...

    It was working before?

When you say "Also, .m4a files are not imported at all to the media center library." what do you mean? MusicBridge does not actually import the files in. You have to do that in WMP then you can run the sync to update all the information and album art...

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

    BUG FOUND!

Sync covers from iTunes to WMP is ignoring the date criteria. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

I fixed the cover sync date issue. It wasn't a regression.

    but here is version 1.5.1
