RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

No I think the board is set to +5VSB in the circuit somewhere..

The pins are missing from the board where they should be.

I have been told that most modern boards are set to default to +5VSB and its only old boards where you need to set the jumpers..

It works fine with the Reg hack so I'm happy now!

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

Regarding the 'instant shutdown' problem when resuming from S3 standby on ASUS motherboards...

I think I may have found the problem here - when the mobo wakes tha machine back up, it checks fans speeds, CPU temperature etc (CPU Overheat Protection)

I have a Zalman Superflower cooler with the fanmate speed controller, so during POST the machine usually reports CPU fan failure, because it is spinning slower than the threshold speed.

So, either S3 suspend is causing an overheat somewhere or the slow CPU fan is causing the machine to shut down to protect the CPU (which probably doesn't need protecting).

It seems this threshold cannot be altered via BIOS either so unsure if I can get around this yet. For now I'm using hibernate instead of suspend!

    Hope this helps!

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

Here's one for ya. I have an a8n8xe-deluxe and hauppauge 150 MCE, and s3 works fine from the remote. However, when I schedule it to record a program, and turn it off with the remote (thus in S3 sleep), the pc wakes up at the right time, but never records anything, and never goes back to sleep. WHen I look at the recordings, it says there is one there, but when I try to play it, it says it is corrupted and offers to delete it.

The other thing I noticed is I turned on Q-fan in the bios, and it seems to vary the cpu fan. However, if I put it in S3, and then wake it up with the remote, Q-fan no longer works; the cpu fan always runs at full speed.

    Anyone else experience this?

EDIT: I Added the rollup 1 and other patches listed elsewhere, ran hwclear and reinstalled the drivers for the 150 MCE, and now I get this error "Windows Media Center has encountered an error and is unable to record "xxxx". Please restart the computer and reschedule the recording". This only happens when trying to record when in S3 sleep (as far as I can tell, it doesn't even wakeup, I see the error when I wake up the machine using the remote). If the machine is running, the recording starts and ends just fine.

EDIT2: Just found this: http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=50&MessageID=85216&TopicPage=3. Looks like it might be the solution, since I am using McAfee 8.0.

EDIT3: After installing Patch 11 for McAfee 8.0, the PC will now wake up, record, and shut down according to the power profile. Yay! But, Q-fan still does not work correctly; after resume from standby, the fan runs full speed all the time. Oh well, I can live with that.

Just a warning to anyone using an iMon remote:

DO NOT DO THIS REGISTRY HACK IF YOU ARE USING YOUR IMON REMOTE!!!!!

This registry hack will cause a conflict and will lock up your computer!

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

Ha that might explain my problem...

I have installed the latest iMon and now when my PC comes out of standby Its locked up with a black screen but its fine until it goes into standby...

Is this the same problem as yours?

Sounds like it......I'm working on restoring it to a previous version, so I'll post the results.

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

well, I restored my iMon software to version 3.71 and now it won't enter/suspend to S3, but I can now recover from S3 if I suspend via my remote........in short, I have no idea what the hell is going on with this.  Any help would be appreciated.

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

This thread has been the best information about the most usefull feature of all, but I still can't get my PC to wakeup using the remote.  I'm fairly sure that it is something to do with the +5 volts to my IR receiver (or lack of) but I can find any info about my mobo that would help.

It will go into S3 very nicely; wake to recorded properly; but I need to press the power button on the PC to wake it to watch TV.

Does anyone know how to setup the giga-byte K8N51PVMT-9 for S3?

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

I'm having the same problem with S3 waking up to a black screen - but my video card is ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. My Catalyst driver version is 5.13. Does anyone know if this is a driver issue for ATI too and if it has been fixed in this month's 6.1 drivers?

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

I installed 6.1 ATI Catalyst drivers and the QFE for R2 that allegedly addresses the black screen issue (I can't remember the QFE number, but it was up on Windows Update).

Coming out of S3 works fine outside MCE shell.

Coming out of S3 when inside MCE still doesn't work. The fans come on and so does the video card, but nothing else happens. The computer doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard input and can't be shutdown without doing a hard reset.

Unless somebody has a solution, I think I'll just avoid going to S3 sleep. My HTPC isn't very loud and it's inside a cabinet, so it doesn't really bother me... and S3 seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

RE: S3 Standby - Hardware & Software solution

I had the same problem when I upgraded my 9500 to 6.1 (softmod to 9700).  I'm now using 5.3 (softmod to 9700) and I can come out of standby in MCE 2005 with no problems.  I suggest you use older drivers.
