ok i had problems with this step:

When I try s3 Windows gives an error that ehome is blocking power save:

1. Make sure you have the IR receive plugged in to a USB port that has +5VSB set
2. Rumor is if you installed windows with your MB not set to do s3 you are hooped.  If you had to change your MB power save settings you may have to do a re-install. MS apparently checks this on install, and puts a different dll in if no ACPI or s3 is fou

Windows popped a message saying the device could not go into sleep mode or something like that, but i manage to fix it by deleting the Microsoft ehome remote control keyboard keys from the device manager and installed it again. restarted the PC and was working perfectly... thanks for the guide

Osmo, it is true that MCE will not recognize S3 if you installed with the BIOS set to S1.  The utility above (dumppo.exe) will fix this issue.

Can someone please explain the above part - i go to HKLM but I can't find a 'current control set' - do i add this and then services, etc.......I'm not so well up on the reg, but i do realise i can knacker my machine by getting it wrong - any help mucho appreciated.

  I'm getting no resume from S3 standby.  (Using the Microsoft MCE Remote...   It works fine from the power switch)

I've gone through the procedure a number of times, trying to get it to work.  The only "gap" in my process is the fact that my motherboard does not have any jumpers for 5V Standby.  I suspect that this is part of the problem, since the remote reciever does not respond to me pushing a remote button (usually it will light up a small LED when it receives a signal).  What is odd, is that my BIOS does have an option for "USB Controller Resume" under the power management settings...  I'm not sure how a MB can support "USB Controller Resume", but not support +5V standby power....  Any ideas???

Incidentally, the powersupply does have +5V Standby Power listed (2Amps)...

Update:  Weirdness, when the computer is sleeping, if I unplug the IR Receiver, then plug it in, the red "receive" light begins to function.  Still no resume.  So the USB is getting power apparently....  Now it seems like the device is getting turned off by windows?

You should double check you power management tab under devices for the remote... shoudl have tick off that it can wake from standby. Also if you BIOS has some settings related to waking, enable it.

 

I did have some problems with my remote, and the key seems to be remove all referances to it in devices (including the one under USB devices) and re-installing.

 

Here it is I have a amd 3000+ on a foxconn winfast 755fxk8aa mobo with 1gig ram, 6600gt, 2 150pvrs, and a fusiongold

The problem I have is I can go into standby with the remote and startup only thing is I get the black screen and nothing else.  I've tried the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update for Standby Mode (KB895678). Along with dumppo.exe and I ran these 2 commands

dumppo.exe admin minsleep=S3

dumppo.exe admin maxsleep=S3

Oh I also did a clean install with just the video card gigabyte gv-n66t128vp (nvidia gefoce 6600gt) newest drivers and it didn't work there either.

And Yes I have S3 selected in bios

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I too am having a similar problem with MCE locking up after coming out of S3.
If I am watching live TV and go to S3 on resume I will certainly get a black screen and a hung computer.
Like you Erik I have also applied the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update for Standby Mode (KB895678.
I have seen this issue a lot on the forums but no resolution.

Ehome wonder tuner (TV and FM)
Athlon XP 3200+
FIC AU31 board with NForce (audio, etc) and nvidia geforce 4 (no way to disable in bios)

I am having these sorts of issues mentioned in this thread.

My MS MCE Remote will put the computer into S3 standby fine. When I push power button again on the remote it wakes up ok except that the video takes AT LEAST 20 secs if not 40 to wake up. In the meantime theres just a black screen. On some occasions the video doesn't wake up at all.

Also in Windows under device properties I have no visible option to turn on/off power/standby options for each thing as theres no such tab there.

Im about to run windows update and see if that fixes the problem (heres hoping).

I have a variation on this problem.  Running Windows XP MCE 2005 on an MSI RS480M2-IL motherboard with the power management setting in BIOS set to S1 & S3 (previous experience showed that the S3 only setting gave me problems).  My initial installation worked flawlessly: sleep put the PC into S3 with no need to run dumppo.exe or make registry edits.  I could wake up the PC from sleep mode using TGB (i.e. the START button) on the remote and immediately launch Media Center.

Well, for a host of reasons that have nothing to do with sleep mode, I had to reformat my hard disk and reinstall Windows MCE.  On reinstall, sleep mode went into S1 (fans on) instead of S3.  I fixed that using the abovementioned registry edits and running dumppo.  Now, the machine will go into S3 sleep, and it will wake up via remote but ONLY if I press the power button: TGB no longer works to bring the PC out of sleep mode.

I guess I should be satisfied that this is "good enough," but I liked being able to wake up the computer and launch Media Center with a single button.  Any ideas how I can return to the functionality of the original install?

Same problem here, sort of. I can only get s3 to work if I don't add the USBBIOSx registry entry. But if I don't add that entry I can no longer wake up the machine from suspend with the remote. S3 is much more important to me so I took the registy entry out, but it would be nice if I could wake it up with the remote.

My motherboard is a DFI Lanparty NF3, video is EVGA 6600GT, EVGA dual tuner(NVTV), ATI HDTVWonder. Since some people can get this to work it must be something to do with an an add in card or driver.

 I read your post and it sounds like the same problem I was having. My computer would go into standby mode, but would take forever to come out of it. With my system I would have a black screen for around 80 seconds, then video would turn on.

I'm not sure if your using the same hardware as me, but I thought I would pass along what fixed it for me.

I'm using an nForce 2 motherboard (NF7-S). I uninstalled the nvidia IDE drivers and used the default Microsoft IDE drivers instead. Now coming out of standby mode takes around 10 seconds at the most.

Here is something else you can try. Download a program called Bootvis. It is a Microsoft tool. It will keep a log of everything as you go in and out of standby, and list which drivers are delaying the process. I tried it a few times, but nothing it listed seemed to help me.
