    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

Does anyone have any contacts at Samsung?  I tried to find out if any of their newly released TVs (particularly in the UK) will be compatible with the digital media adapter - for example the LE32M86BD says it is Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) compliant (unlike other older TVs which specifically are not compliant with this) - http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=television&type=television&subtype=tftlcd&model_cd=LE32M86BDX/XEU

From what I read/heard after CES, a HDMI-CEC compliant TV should work but the reply from Samsung is below which isn't very  helpful:

"Until it actually comes out we really don't have much information about our products, I would however assume that they would be trying to make it as compatible as posible with our products as it would mean more sells in the long run."

    Thanks!

I'd also like to know more about this, I am thinking of buying a new smaller Samsung LCD HDTV for our bedroom and would want the Samsung extender to be compatible with it.

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

The Series 4, Series 5 and Series 6 Samsungs are now on the Samsung US website.  They don't mention the digital multimedia adapter specifically but refer to HDMI-CEC.  It would be great to be able to confirm that HDMI-CEC is all you need on a Samsung TV so we can buy the current (UK) TVs and wait for the DMA to come out.  If anyone has any luck getting information out of Samsung, please post!

    Thanks

cw-kid - the European versions of the 4 and 5 series, 32" and bigger are now online on a Belgian website (http://www.pcscomputers.be/index.php?module=shop&action=product_detail&prd_id=374&cat_id=86).  This is the only place I have been able to find them but hopefully they are now shipping to stores and we should see them in the UK soon

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

Does anyone know more about the release date?  I was looking the HP MediaSmart television and it was too extensive and not that great of a picture.

Whathifi say the Series 4 and Series 5 TVs have been released but Samsung haven't received any information yet and I can't find them online anywhere...

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

Any news on this from anyone? I emailed Samsung and they only said:

"At the moment we have norelease information regarding televisions that
    will be compatible withthe MCE.

I can assure you that as if and when this information becomes available
there will be a news announcment made most likely via the website at
    www.samsung.com/uk"

I'm travelling to Bangkok end of next month and need to pick up a small Samsung LCD TV to use with my XBOX 360 whilst I am living out there! Would be nice to get a model that's gonna work with their MCX so when / if I come back home to the UK I can put it in the bedroom.

Was looking at something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134572

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

I have been waiting to buy a couple of Samsung TVs.  Unfortunately no-one will confirm what is required for the promised digital multimedia adapter (aka extender).  I would guess that the TV needs HDMI-CEC so it may be important to check it has this.

The product above is a monitor with a PAL tuner (not Freeview) and I don't know if HDMI-CEC is supported.

To be on the safe side, you may want to wait for the new TVs which have been released in the US and are listed on some European websites.  This is what I plan to do.  However, distubringly the 22" and smaller versions of the new series TVs do not have HDMI-CEC which may mean that they're not compatible - very frustrating given that these sort of semi-integrated extenders are ideal for rooms such as kitchen and bedrooms where you don't want a big TV.

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

Pretty sure that model is not HMI-CEC, just an example. I agree the smaller TV's need to support this as you said for kitchens and bedrooms its ideal.

Whats the difference between a PAL tuner and freeview? So would that model not work with freeview?

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

Samsung's specs say analogue tuner (http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=itbusiness&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS19PMASF/EDC&fullspec=F), not digital Freeview.  It doesn't sound like it would work with Freeview

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

The new Samsung TVs supposedly launch in the UK on 1st May (http://whathifi.com/forums/t/10747.aspx).  Still not sure whether the <26" versions include HDMI-CEC and whether this is required for the extender device (assuming it is released one day)

    Re: Details about Samsung's Extender

Any news on this from anyone? as I'm still totally confused!

I was hoping to get a small Samsung HDTV probably between 19" - 23"
None of the specs on the Samsung website list HDMI-CEC

A newer model like one of these that support's the DMA would be ideal.

    LE19R88BD (X) – 19”

    http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=television&type=television&subtype=tftlcd&model_cd=LE19R88BDX/XEU

    LE23R88BD – 23”

    http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=television&type=television&subtype=tftlcd&model_cd=LE23R88BDX/XEU&fullspec=F

I really hope they don't limit this to 26" and above sized TV's.

    Cheers

Any new news on availablity of the DMA in the US?  We are redoing our son's room, and I would like to put a flat panel in there to save space.  And no, our son is not spoiled, we need a TV in there for the nurses and ourselves who cover the night shifts with him.
