    XP MCE Question

Hi, I am very new to Media Center. I have a question about a nagging problem. If I am watching Live TV and a program previously set to Record, starts Recording, Media Center jumps to the channel being recorded.

Is this normal behavior? Is there a way or setting to stop it from doing that? I have searched all thru the software, as well as this site, and found nothing.

If that is just the way it is, then so be it.

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Hi Cobob

If you only have 1 TV card in your system then this is normal.

    Re: XP MCE Question

I apologize, I need to get used to listing equipment. I am using the Hauppauge HVR-2250. It has two tuners on the card. Does that still hold true, even though it has 2 tuners, just one card?

    Thanks,

    Re: XP MCE Question

That is normal behaviour, at least for my XP machine.

It put up that annoying "I'm gonna switch: Yes, No" message box and then even if you clicked yes, no, or did nothing, it went ahead and switched anyway.

I have a Vista machine running Tv Pack and now when the annoying message pops up, if you click yes, it goes and changes channels. If you click no, it cancels the recording.  So at least thats been fixed.

I dont know why it just cant use one of the other tuners.

    Re: XP MCE Question

Is your card dual analog? If it's a combo card, then that's normal and you'll need a second card. If you're talking about vista, go to the other forum.

    Re: XP MCE Question

Yes, 2250 is dual analog. I am in the correct place, thank you.

And I thank you all for the answers.

    Re: XP MCE Question

I have an XP MCE with a duel Nvidia as well as a single Nvidia card and I'll need to check. I don't  watch live TV but when I was setting it up I think I did watch Live while recording on the other 2. I'll post my findings.

    Re: XP MCE Question

If you have 2 equivalent tuners, then MC is supposed to use the other tuner.  If you are recording back to back shows on different channels, sometimes the network defines the timing of 1 of the shos such that there is an overlap between the 2 shows and thus MC needs the 2nd tuner to make it work.

    For example:

Show A on channel A scheduled for 8:00-9:01
       Show B scheduled for 9:00-10:00

In the above example, you will need 2 tuners during the 1 minute overlap.  If you only had 1 tuner, then MC would alert you of a conflict and not record 1 of the shows.

If your tuner is not behaving properly in MC, then I would see if there are newer drivers for your tuner card.  It is possible there is a bug  in the ones you are using.

    Re: XP MCE Question

    Bob,

On my system with a single tuner and another with two tuners (Nvidia card) I did the following.
    1. Went to live TV and pressed the record button my remote, MCE started to record.
    2. Changed the channel and Pressed the record button, MCE started recording the second channel.
3 Changed channels again and watch the the third live TV show.

MCE did not switch channels on its own
