    leaving Xbox on 24/7

I'm considering leaving my Xbox powered on and pushing a signal at my HDTV 24/7, and simply turing off my TV when I'm not using it like I always have.  The idea would be to avoid the 40 seconds or so that it takes from the time the Xbox is first powered-on until I'm actually watching TV.  Do any of you leave your Xbox on and pushing data to your TV round-the-clock?

an xbox360 uses anywhere between 130-180 watts, also i wouldnt count a 360 as being reliable enough to keep running 24/7

Buy a Linksys DMA-2100 and leave it on 24/7.  They are under $150 on occasional sale.  The latest sale is at Dell.

Someone told me my Linksys DMA2100 uses 8 watts wired (17 wireless).  At 8 watts, it would use about 1/20 the power of a XBOX 360, and save about $150/year if left on 24/7.  So in my mind, my Linksys pays for itself quickly.  It is also silent.

I've never seen a Linksys MC extender, but I've read that it's not as fast and that its interface isn't quite as slick as an Xbox.

It all depends on your expectations.  It is marginally slower when navigating menus.  And the colors in the menus are not as good.  But, when it comes to displaying HDTV, it looks just as good IMHO.

And honestly, I spend more time watching than playing in the menus!  I also found the noise of the Xbox 360 far more annoying than slow menus, especially in the bedroom.

I agree with Dan.  The best thing about the DMAs are that they don't even seem like they are on.  If you ever used PCs as your PC to TV Media Center you would know that a small and silent box providing Media Center function is just bliss.   I do use my 360 as an extender and it's got the fan noise.  But my 360 is hooked to the only HDTV in the house and now has surround sound.  I don't mind the fan noise because just across the room is the Media Rig and it's cousin the XP media server.  Located even closer is a heavily worked de-humidifier.  So the noise is basically nothing to me considering where it's at.  DMAs are great for bedrooms and living rooms or kitchens where there isn't much space available...just like Dan said...Q
