    Signal quality issue with HDHomeRun

So, I just swapped a bunch of hardware for new stuff, including selling my AverMedia PCIe ATSC tuner cards and buying an HDHomeRun so that I could put the tuner in my network closet and have my office PC (Vista Home Premium 64-bit) do all the work via ethernet.

Well, before I set it up that way, I need to purchase some outdoor OTA multi-directional antennas, so in the meantime, I'm using the same antennas I was using with my PCIe cards:

    1) Philips ATSC Indoor amplified antenna

    2) Terk HDTVa Indoor amplified antenna

In Vista Media Center, using the AverMedia tuners, I would get 6 bars for signal quality with only a couple channels lagging behind in the 3-5 bar range, but I got all of the ATSC channels in my area (Austin, TX) with a minimum of picture quality issues (and they weren't very often).

Now, however, with the HDHomeRun, with the antennas in the exact same place, facing the exact same direction, I cannot get more than 3 bars signal strength in Vista Media Center.

Funny thing, though, is that in the HDHomeRun config software, it says I am getting 100% signal strength!

I have the TV Pack installed, but this problem existed before installing the TV Pack as well.  I've also tried installing the latest HDHomeRun beta drivers, but this has not fixed the issue.

What's up with this?  Anyone else had the same problem and fixed it?  If so, what was your fix?

    Here's my PC specs:

OS: Vista Home Premium (x64) SP1 w/Media Center TV Pack (this occurred before installing the TV Pack too)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L (built-in video, sound, and network)
    Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) G-Skill 5-5-5-15 DDR2-800
    ATSC Tuner: HDHomeRun

    Help!

    My Vista Media Center Setup:

    Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
    Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L
    4GB DDR2-800 PC6400 SDRAM
500GB Maxtor SATAII (OS and Recorded TV)
1TB Seagate SATAII (Media, Storage, Backup)

Re: Signal quality issue with HDHomeRun

Are you having any problems with the signal other than the signal strength that you are seeing during the setup process?  Is it affecting actual performance when watching?

It is likely that these bars are controlled via an interface in the driver for the card...so every tuner may give you different results.

Re: Signal quality issue with HDHomeRun

You're getting 100% signal in the config software because its pulling the strength of the ClearQam signal, not the ATSC reception.
