    While you have the code cracked open would you consider putting a flag in config file and code to toggle the OSD?  I'm running a modified version with the code commented out but I think it would be easier for all if it were set up as an switched option.

    Thanks!

    Re: DirecTV Serial PlugIn for MCE supporting newer D11 USB models

    Was hoping someone could help me out. I bought the patersontech usb translator and downloaded the plugin, ran the reg.bat and got the strong name warning but no error. My mce remote won't change the channel though :( I'm a bit confused on whether i need to choose certain settings in the media center setup or if the plugin should just work after a reboot. Also, should the .dll file be placed in the .net folder if the plugin is installed correctly?  TIA.

    -J

    Edit: I know the translator is working somewhat because if i go into the patersontech config utility and test it, it does swtich between the two channels as it states it should.

    Edit #2: This may or may not be revelant but when i highlight a channel and hit OK to try and change the channel, the video blinks for a second but doesn't change.

    Edit #3: Here's my log file...I'm pretty sure I have the latest dll's, etc.

    DirectTvMediaStatusSink.Initialize()
    DirectTvMediaStatusSink.CreateSession()
    DirectTvMediaStatusSink.CreateSession()

    On my setup, when a scheduled recording starts and the receiver is not on, MCE throws a tuner failure error before MediaStatusSink is instantiated so there is never a chance to turn the box on.

    Anyone figure a way around this?

    I can turn the box on no problem and actually do that when a session is created, but at that point the recording has already failed.

    Just a quick note - I won't be working the code for this anymore. After a long relationship with DTV I finally had enough with some of their practices and switched over to Fios.

    Best of luck to whomever picks up the code and continues with it.

    I am currently looking at the code to expand support for the Fios Motorola STBs

    bxs122: And this is just a quick note to say "thanks" for your pioneering work in establishing this very helpful tool. For those of us that are stuck with DTV for one reason or another, your driver has been a tremendous help in improving the reliability of our connection to the STB.

    Thanks again.

    I've been trying to get this to work for about two weeks with no luck and i may have been under the wrong impression the whole time. Should this plugin allow me to change the channels with my media center remote or just the dtv remote. I still cannot change channels with the mce remote but the directv remote still works (although, there is lag using buttons). any info is greatly appreciated.

    Re: DirecTV Serial PlugIn for MCE supporting newer D11 USB models

    I went ahead and made a windows service to solve my power on issues with the receiver.

    It will turn the receiver on after power on or resume from suspend and turn it off on suspend or power off only if it turned the box on, otherwise leaving it alone.

    So I now I don't have to worry about missing a recording or leaving the box on all the time.

    Hey Brian,

    Thanks for all your work. Its funny though as i switched to FIOS as well. Had it installed last week. I was thinking use core of your driver but rely on FireSTB drivers to control the stb, as it appears they already have support for FIOS Boxes. Also i hope firewire connection can resolve the image problems. I have motorola 6416 HD DVR box  and that thing does wierd thing to vides stream it sends over s-video and composite. Basically it forces regular 4:3 to be stretched to 16:9 which looks funny and HD images get 2 black bars on top and bottom causing image to appear "squizzed". I know its stb as it looks the same if i plug s-video directly into my tv. Funny thing is that allow override for hdmi connection to force 4:3 image to be in letter box format but not for s-video.

     i hasnt tried firewire option yet as my media center doesnt have a firewire port and i am all out of expansion slots, so i need to figure this one out.

    In any case, let me know if you would like some help/ideas with the new driver..

    Ahhh - the 6416-2, boy have I been having fun with that one.

    To solve your 4:3 issue, push the Power Button followed by the Menu then Select button. A service menu screen will display on your TV. Use the left side unit's arrow buttons to move up down and then right arrow to enter a sub menu.
    You want to change the 4:3 overdirve (I think third from the top) to Off. Solved my stretch problems.

    Re: DirecTV Serial PlugIn for MCE supporting newer D11 USB models

    LOL. i've spent quite a few hours trying to get it to work. I had to call the verizon because they changed the way you enter the service menu (its power->select-menu), motorola manual says power-menu. In any case the setting you mentioned only works for hdmi and component inputs, it doesnt affect s-video or composite. At least it doesnt on my box, like i say when i hook up s-video to my tv  i get a streatched image no matter what the settings are :(

    Thats why i was hoping firewire would allow me to get digital stream directly, plus you actually can get HD video over firewire (given its not copy protected). At least according to readme from http://home.comcast.net/~timmmoore/firewire/readme.htm. I think i am going to rebuild my HTPC over the weekend, its been acting funny lately, so i ll make sure i have a firewire connection and try it out. The picture i get from media center drives me nuts. i almost miss DTV (not really)...

    After abandoning this plugin months ago due to lack of help, I got it working last night. The IR channel changing was just too unreliable so I had to do something. Turns out it was all a com port issue. I had to set the config file to 9600 not 115200. I thought I had tried that months ago but i'm not sure. Also, both my d11's got new software updates about two months ago so i'm not sure if that had a part in making it work either. At any rate, once I got the com port speed set, it worked perfectly. Channel changing is much faster and reliable! Hopefully this info may help some other poor soul.

    Re: DirecTV Serial PlugIn for MCE supporting newer D11 USB models

    My Vista media center has two digital ota tuners and an analog tuner that has a Directv receiver plugged in via svideo.  I am using this plugin with the paterson tech cable and it changes channels on the Directv stb and digital ota when using MCE on the computer.  If I try to change channels from the XBOX 360 extender, the channels do not change on the stb but do change on the digital ota channels.  Is this a known limitation or do I have it configured improperly?

    Re: DirecTV Serial PlugIn for MCE supporting newer D11 USB models

    I have a Dell Hybrid that i plan to install my USB TV tuner card on.  Im going to take my Direct TV D-11 STB and bring it into the office with the computer.  I will hook the STB to the computer. I have also purchased a new D-Link N Wireless 655 router that will be hard wired to the computer.  In my living room i plan to hook my extender to my tv.  I will use the remote that came with the extender to control the extender that will send a singal via the router to the computer, then the computer will send a singal to the STB in one of two ways.  Serial Connection or IR Blaster.  If i can figure out how to do the serial connection i would prefer that but i only have USB connections, HDMI, and Firewire on the back of my computer.  IF i get the serial connection working and communicating with the STB do i still need to have an IR Emitter/Receiver hooked into my computer to make WMC happy?

    Thanks
