    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Barb,

    In order for me to investigate, I'll need the postal code and headend name you are using.

    As for the TV Pack systems, there is a delay in some headends. I do not currently have a good estimate, but I can say it should be before tomorrow evening.

    The issue with "some" TV Pack users not seeing new data is from that process being restarted due to new data coming through the pipe. We've taken steps to assure all headends will finish on this pass.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    This brings up a question about general support for MCE2005. Now that Windows XP is no longer available (except as an OEM product), when will Microsoft stop providing guide info for users of Media Center 2005?
    Just curious because my OEM HTPC cannot be upraded to Vista (older hardware).

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    I'm a Comcast Subscriber in Northern Virginia, Area Code 22206.

    What is a headend?

    Thank you.

    Interesting question. Microsoft has published the support lifecycle for XP here: http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-gb&C2=1173

    Mainstream support for MCE2005 ends in April next year though Extended support goes on through 2014. I expect EPG data will be provided during Mainstream support, but am not sure about the Extended support window, as that is aimed around just providing security updates. I can't see XP getting EPG data past 2014.

    Would be good to get an official answer though.

    MCE2005 (Will go with the Win7 public beta when available) | AMD64X2 3600+ | 3Gb Ram | 1.5Tb HDD | Hauppauge PVR150 | nVidia 7300LE silent GPU | Pig ugly big black case | Dead DVD drive | Virgin Media cable | Xbox 360 wired extender

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    This should be enough for now.

    A headend is the name of your provider specific to the service you receive. This would be for example: Arlington Comcast, or Arlington Digital Comcast etc.

    You can find the exact details if you navigate to:

    Tasks -> Settings -> Tv -> Guide -> About Guide Listings

    I should have enough information to follow up from here. I'll let you know what I find.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    I'll see what I can find out about this. Since the same service supports Vista clients, I wouldn't expect the EPG suppor to end for 2005 anytime soon, but I'll see what I can find out.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    I've been experiencing the same problems with the EPG, and after manually updating just now it's still bad! The update just hangs at 0%.

    I appreciate all your efforts to help us and I know how to handle tech problems and browsing through The Green Button, even though I hate wasting valuable time.

    Have you guys considered how not-so-tech-savvy-mere-mortals, how the average Joe's can get their trust in MCE working for them rather than against them? Have you considered better and more user friendly ways of reporting errors and reporting back responses?

    Here are my detailed symptoms:

    Mediacenter Guide has stopped updating app. one week ago, and no scheduled recordings or manual recordings have succeeded - all attempts respond with an error and MCE crashing.

    I have routinely manually moved files to a different disk for later viewing, but coinciding with this error MCE seems to have gotten sensitive to files having been removed.

    Running Vista MCE with no frills, add ons etc.

    EPG details: Denmark, Zip 8000, Analog cable provider: Stofa (Telia)

    About 2 months ago I had to manually adjust all channels because of a major change by our cable provider.

    I reported this change incl. a link to complete info about the new channel frequency list to both BDS & MS. Never had any responses.

    How can I save my settings prior to attempt an update of my channel list - in case it still goes wrong?

    About EPG says:

    BDS
    Id:15
    Version: 2688140940
    Analog signal
    Id: 8400000
    Schemaversion: 15
    Language: dk
    Startdate: 01-01-2001 00:00:00
    Enddate: 05-09-2008 15:40:00

    Thanks

    Christian

    We will continue to support EPG for all previous versions of Media Center AT LEAST through the end of official support of Windows Vista SP1.  They all use the same EPG download, and there is no plans to discontinue this service.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Hi Chris,

    Can you point me to the report of your lineup changes? I can make sure that gets to the right location for resolution.

    As for the issue you are reporting, this doesn't feel related to guide availability. I don't know of a way to backup your current settings. I'll see if I can find someone that can help look into your crash. Is it a consistent repro?

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Actually, looking into the data, I see a discrepency in what you are reporting and what I see available.

    8400000 = Manuel opsætning, antenne (analog)
    8400001 = Manuel opsætning, antenne (digital)
    8400002 = Manuel opsætning, kabel-tv (analog)
    8400003 = Manuel opsætning, kabel-tv (digital)
    8400004 = Manuel opsætning, satellit-tv (analog)
    8400005 = Manuel opsætning, satellit-tv (digital)
    8430000 = TDC Københavns kommune
    8430001 = TDC Københavns Amt
    8430002 = TDC Frederiksberg kommune
    8430003 = TDC Frederiksborg Amt
    8430004 = TDC Ã…rhus Amt
    8430005 = TDC Fyns Amt
    8430006 = TDC Nordjyllands Amt
    8430007 = Telia Stofa Aalborg
    8430008 = Telia Stofa Ã…rhus
    8430009 = Telia Stofa Dragør
    8430010 = Telia Stofa Horsens
    8430011 = Telia Stofa Kolding
    8430012 = Dansk Bredbånd Kabel-tv

    Could you confirm that you are using the correct headend? I'm wondering if when the changes you speak of were made, the headend itself changed. You may need to go back through TV setup in order to receive the correct lineup.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    I'm not sure how you would relate this to anything already reported? It's quite suggestive that ChrisDane is having a different issue simply by noting the crash.

    Please, if you don't have constructive information to add to a post, consider refraining so we can keep on topic and do what we can to triage each individual issue as it's reported. One thing I've learned in my experience is that you should never assume two issue are caused by the same root problem unless you can prove so.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Chris, you're absolutely right!

    Normally I would have used 8430008 (Stofa Århus).

    Rather than waiting a couple of weeks for the new lineup to be updated, back in July I ended up doing a manual setup and manually link each channel to the right EPG channel name.

    July 1st I sent a mailnote to BDS at help@bds.tv and also submitted a report to MS - both incl. a link to the new lineup at http://www.stofa.dk/stofatv/kanaloversigt_pdf.php?anlaegid=791. Unfortunately I do not remember how I reported the issue to MS.

    I'm just wondering if my lineup problem is related to the other problem - about the EPG suddenly no longer updating updating and recording crashing - both seemed to start happening about the same time. I read some post stating that you should update the lineup in order to get the list of recorded files reconstructed.

    Is there some way that MCE can reconstruct its database of recordings?

    Those symptoms are also why I created this post as part of this particular thread.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    HELP!  I have enjoyed Media Center for several years with no problems.  Recently I am getting three error messages.

    1) When trying to download guide from Zap2It to 91601:  "The Guide could not be downloaded for the following reason: Guide server error (Code:33)."

    2) When trying to reset guide listings:  "Guide listings could not be retrieved.  Internet connection failure. Details: Unknown discovery service error. Code:14"

    3) When I open Media Center:  "Media Center was unable to open Messenger.  Please make sure that Windows Messenger is installed on your system."

    The dial-up connection is working fine.  The date/time is set correctly.  There is no firewall conflict with Media Center.  Windows Messenger is installed.

    May be relevant:  Recently my Dell XPS4 crashed and ran scandsk (or was it chkdsk?), but all seems fine except Media Center.

    I am not a computer wizard.  Please respond with simple instructions.

    Re: Media Center Guide not updating

    Hello Chris, It seems my guide has not updated yet, data ends on August 31st, 2008 at 11 pm. The ID number for my service is 183429468. I am using the TV Pack. Are you aware of any headends that have not been updated yet? Thanks, Michael
