    Re: Motherboard Choice

Search for AMD 780G motherboards.  They have very good on-board graphics with HDMI & DVI output as well as supporting dual channel DDR2.  I'm not sure there would be anything out there which supports DDR1 (if that is what you are referring to).

If I were building my HTPC from scratch that is what I would go for.  Combine it with a low energy AMD CPU such as the 4450E and you'll have a very good system!

If you're in the UK (which given the "Cheers" is likely), here are some links:

I've paired a gigabyte ga ma780gpm ds2h board with a 4850e processor and its all working out really well (except one niggling problem). I've a build log here:

    I can't agree more with asm495.

I recently flashed my bios  which killed my motherboard Crying [:'(] So I replaced it with a board with integrated nvidia 8200 (http://www.jwele.com/motherboard_detail.php?348).  It just did not want to play nice I was unable to get the hardware decoding to work, also had an issue with wake on lan.

Eventually gave up and went with AMD 780G motherboard (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142347), was all working within a few hours. Am very pleased.
